I wasn’t expecting such a quick and complete response This is good Reading through these articles I recall comments noting the performance of the optical wireless system is different on the digital sensors VS the film plane How has that shown up for you in practice? |

I’ve looked at the popular auction site, as well as regional craigslist and FB Marketplace listings — the Sony digital bodies seem to be getting bigger dollars than 50 quid
I must admit the Alpha 900 and 850 look interesting, but that’s a rabbit hole for a different time For now, the 5400hs flash that I got for $20 and the occasional frames on roll film with field/studio notes will do I’ll dig deeper into the manual for the 5400 and the camera body for specifics on setup and look again at these articles which were linked in this conversation Edited by Flyingzebra - 22 July 2024 at 17:48 |

I've not done side by side comparisons, nor do I use flash a great deal . My main uses for flash is macro , where I typically use either the Minolta MFC-1000 flash controller with the ring flash or twin flash . Or the pop up flash with the Minolta flash diffuser . When I've used wireless flash with either film or digital all the images have come out fine . The main thing to remember is to keep the flash out of the frame , otherwise you'll just have pictures of a big white dot ! |

I have developed a quick-check acronym for myself for when I’m using a medium format or other full-manual (like the folding Zeiss and Voigtlander) cameras ATF Aperture Time Focus I’ve more than once forgotten to adjust the focus after setting composition in a viewfinder, after setting the f/stop, after cocking and setting the shutter It’s good to remind oneself of the basics from time to time |

Add to that when I'm shooting my large format gear , remember to close the shutter after focussing, but before removing the dark slide . And , remember to remove the dark slide before taking the shot ! We've all done it ! |

Oh and if you develop your own film , remember to develop it in developer and not the fix .

Oh my!
I still have a box full of Graphic film boards here Learning the breathing rythm of a Speed Graphic was a transformational process. I have a lens here on the workbench, and it’s a struggle at times to resist the auction site opportunities for bigger-than-roll film cameras. I’m trying to keep it simple but that doesn’t always work out. |
