I don't know if any other kiwis have noticed this, but Phototronic no longer has any A-mount cameras or lenses listed available for sale.
The NZ Sony website still lists them, but the links to buy end up with a 404 not-found error, or a message the lens is not available for purchase.

Photowarehouse only has the 35mm f1.4 G listed for sale, but it's not listed "in stock" so I am dubious.

Is Sony New Zealand dependent on or closely affiliated with Sony Australia (the avowed A-mount hater division of Sony)?

I donít think so. The thing about Phototronic is that it isnít just seller of A-Mount. Theyíre the official repairer in this region (I think they got the Australian stuff too) of Sony camera gear. And they were doing it years ago for Minolta.

So Iím much more perturbed to see it dropped from them, than any other retailer. It feels like something is afoot.

Just checked, and Sony Australia has only one a-mount camera on its site, the a99ii.
And the only a-mount lenses listed are some Carl Zeiss ZA lenses (CZ 16-35mm f2.8 Vario-Sonnar, CZ 24-70mm f2.8 Vario-Sonnar, CZ 50mm f1.4 Planar, CZ 24mm f2.0 Distagon, and CZ 135mm f1.8 Sonar), not one a-mount Sony G series or any others.

Looks like a very slow death by neglect, but I'll be sticking until either my cameras and lenses (or I) drop off the perch - hopefully far into the future.

With respect to repairs, Sony Australia has now got Digicam in Adelaide as its official service and repair outlet and they seem to be doing a good job of it.

Thanks @Jozioau

The thing that surprises me is Phototronic still had a lot of A-mount gear listed for sale recently. So rather than a slow decline in their availability, they just all vanished.

They can get A-mount items but they need to order in. They still service and repair A-mount.

FYI:
In Japan,
Almost all SONY-made A-Mount lenses will be delivered the next day by online shopping.

But,
Most camera stores have abolished A-Mount store displays.
(The E-Mount has a force to occupy near the half of the floor.)

The A-Mount has disappeared from the latest Sony camera catalog.

The 3rd party A-Mount lenses and accessories have continued to be endangered species that must be protected if found, but it seems to be truly extinct.

A-Mount does not die, it just disappears...

A Mount left South Africa at least 3 years ago. If we want A mount it is a special order only, or we bring it in ourselves. 2nd hand is all we have and even that is a very small market.

Sony AU has been down to one A-mount body for a long time, even while Sony sites for some other countries have continued to show the A77ii and A68.

The situation with lenses has always been odd. I needed to check the website today regarding some detail on the CZ16-35, but it was missing. For me, but not for you When I checked again just now, the website shows only three A-mount lenses - 70-200G, 70-400G, and 300/2.8G - no overlap with what your search turned up. If I checked again later, it's just as likely to show yet another subset of lenses. The website has been quirky like this for as long as I can remember.

Good to know they still service them.
My concern was that Phototronic had dropped them entirely from the website, so there wasn't even an option to order them. and given they were a major seller in our market.. well... I was curious.

I got an email from Phototronic saying both Sony AU and Sony NZ were no longer stocking A-mount cameras and lenses. And Tamron and Sigma are pretty much the same.

Every thing has to be ordered in now, 6-8 weeks delivery time.

I think that is a sign of the times <sigh>. Even LCE in the UK has no A-mount lenses shown in stock, though plenty are listed for 10-day delivery (and many E-mount are stocked, though again some on 10-day delivery). It has a few A-mount cameras in stock, though. Clearly the shops have decided not to stock two competing mounts from the same manufacturer, unless (as with some other makes) the mounts are for different sensor sizes.
I wonder where the 10-day delivery comes from - is that from Sony Japan or a European distributor?

I received an email from one of my local retailers about their current sale and was pleased to note that the A99II is listed on their website at a 10% discount - although I'd prefer the 20% shown for the A7R III.

A few of the Melbourne shops keep stocks of the A99II on hand if you ever need to make an impulse purchase.

That's very kind of you to offer!
