The yearly Amsterdam light festival is almost over.
So I decided to take one more look.
Brought a monopod to get it all done.
Unfortunately, I forgot the ball head
So Handheld it was . . .
Still some decent shots

#1 dandelion fluff

#2 passing tour boats

#3 And B/W light

#4 and someone playing a glass organ (is that the name?)

I am glad I took the effort

Forgot the ballhead! Oops! Looks really pretty - and of course the old part of Amsterdam is pretty anyway. Last shot came out really nice.

If you took these handheld, you must have a steady hand - judging by the boat in #2. Overall my favorite here is clearly #1, it is snappy and the photogenic background of Amsterdam is very well visible. The choice for B&W of the third one is a good one. Also like the inclusion of the organ. TFS Domien    .

Glad you made the effort ndeed Domien. I was tempted to go there for this Light festival, but too busy last weeks. Nice series, well done hand held. Hard to pick a favourite. TFS

TFS, for me No. 4 stands out, because the warm-coloured lighting from below gives a special atmosphere (which often can be found on old christmas-paintings of the Holy Family) The instrument here are 'musical glasses' the predecessor was the 'glass harmonica', built similar to a hurdy-gurdy. The glass harmonica even made it's way into classical music, f.i. the 'mad scene' in Donizetti's opera 'Lucia di Lammermoor'

Thx Pau, Michele, Fred and Knut
Before anybody thinks I'm super stable taking this shots handheld.: I'm not.
I used the star-shooting trick.
Take (say) 10 shots at very high iso (leading to the 1/100sec shutter speed)
Stack them in Photoshop and average the noise out.
For those places where that leads to unwanted effects, use the result of one shot (e.g. the hands of the musical glasses player (thanks Knut))

What's the reason for the "stabilisers" then..?

That's only a last resort, to be used too early.
