I've packaged up my a77ii and Sony 16-50/2.8 SSM. They've been sold.
This means I now, for the first time in years, have no A-mount cameras. Gulp.

The shift to the E-mount is done. Just the 70-200/2.8 G and 135mm STF remain. But these have been repurposed as E-mount lenses with the LA-EA3.

It's weird, there's a Minolta 400/4.5G for sale here in NZ- a lens for years and years I wanted- and now its available I'm not tempted.

Tbh, there's not much I'm tempted with in the E-mount either.

But I will take your advice anytime I do get tempted

He's enjoying the shift to full frame from the a580/a77ii combo he had.

I get that. While the a77ii was good, its sensor, AF-system etc isn't on par with the 3rd generation A7 cameras and more advanced FF E-mount options.

Tamron makes a good set of 2.8 zooms and primes for the cameras now too- light, responsive and excellent image quality

A-mount is way more expensive. It is not even close. E is for economical.

That old A-mount lens is so much worse than the $250 Tamron 20mm F2.8. Only $50 less than the 20 G. Lol! Sony keeps electronic Lens Compensation for that old 1986 lens in the firmware of A1/A7/A9 camera bodies.

I haven't tried any of these. But I am confident that the GM is not playing in the same class as the old G at all. The $200 35 F2.8's are so much better than the Minolta AF 35 F2 or the MD 35 F1.8.

I am sure I could keep this up. A-mount users may not realize how much more they get for the same amount when switching. Fine.

A-mount gear is largely overvalued used, but some of it might go up more. Some might get even cheaper. I missed the low point for 100 F2's.

The LA-EA5 was an irrational goodwill gesture to A-mount users.

I think what made E-mount 'cheaper' was I knew exactly what I wanted in a lens (likely a result of much more experience now) and the lens I bought, could do what I wanted. Often in the A-mount I had to experiment with a few lenses, work out the trade-offs, and then settle on what to buy. Sometimes that meant I had to buy two lenses as neither one covered the shooting needs I had properly.

Here I'd have to accept such low prices for these lenses there'd still be a large price gap to make up. There's G lenses offered up here at heavy discounts and nobody has expressed an interest in them in months.
