There was no reference I could find to this flash on Dyxum. (Maybe by another name?)
I was browsing EBAY for a Multy Interface hot shoe master controller for my 58AM that I picked up some time ago. Ran across the Andoer Travor SL-282S. It looks like a F20M knock off. I use flash so rarely a step up to the 60M was not in the cards, nor even some of the really nice current offerings by Nissin. A little reading of the limited data I could find on the first 4 Google pages (Every link seemed to deal with sellers) I found a link to Amazon Canada with the flash listed as $53CDN. It also stated that the flash could function as a wireless master. With Amazon's return policy I thought what did I have to loose? Order was made Nov 26, item arrived Dec 15. The shoe is mostly metal- The outer 1/8th on either side of the shoe is plastic. It is flimsier (assumed) than the F20M (I have the F20AM as a comparison) with the door being defiantly lighter and the overall weight less as well. It did not come with a pouch. Manual is a fold out, one side Mandarin the other English. Operation is indistinguishable from the F20AM. Placed on both my A7 and A99 it triggered the 58AM correctly and reliably (About 20 shots from 2M to 5M, indoors) Cycle time appears to be the same. I used alkaline AAAs for my tests. No over or under exposure issues seen. Setting for +3EV and -3EV seemed to do what it was supposed to do. For $53 Canadian I am satisfied and will probably order a second as a spare, or to use as a pair on both the A7 and A99 with the one 58AM Link to Amazon Canada here Edited by bill_bly_ca - 15 December 2015 at 17:48 |

Bringing this thread back from the dead, to add that the flash does not fully emulate all Sony codes. Whereas it faithfully does the job of flash controller on my A77M2, it does not do so on my RX10M4. I had hoped that it would, because Sony did not let the pop-up flash on the M4 act as controller. Probably nothing Travor could do about that, as it can only emulate behavior it sees, and that wasn't available to see when they developed it.
One wonders just how much "hidden" functionality Minolta included in the wireless flash codes, and whether we have seen it all yet. |
