I tried the Animal Eye AF at four zoos around Yokohama.

Whether it has been detected is looking at MakerNote referring to exiftools.

__AFAreaMode: Animal Eye Tracking(20)

Of the 367 photos in which animal eyes were detected, three were neither animals nor eyes.
Green frame is false detection. Signboards and Godzilla are not false positives.

As you can see in original size, the pupil is caught with 33 birds of 5 species.
However, the variation is large in birds. Owls, kingfishers, and oysters were good, but the cranes were not good at all.
However, the explanation signboard of the crane was hit 100%.
In general, signs, photos, illustrations, etc. that are already two-dimensional have good results, but there are also cases where the real thing is better.
At zoos, birds are often placed in cages with fine meshwork, which may be more problematic.

Well, the zoo is not the place for animal Eye AF as it works with cats and dogs with other animals being added later.

From Sony:
"When the subjects have cat- or dog-like faces and both eyes are clearly visible, the camera can easily detect the eye. The camera, however, may not be able to detect an eye depending on the type of animal or shooting environment."

Since the original text of the explanation is Japanese, it is also very popular in Japan.
In addition, SONY generally describes the following in CP+.
For recognition, a dictionary in a broad sense is created by learning, and switched as appropriate. Dogs and cats are frequently prioritized as pets, as increasing the number of supporting animals makes them dramatically more difficult, but even in the present situation other animals are recognized to some extent.
It is very popular in Japan to try various animals, as it is not an algorithmic story but a heuristic. Of course, Sony does not guarantee.

The hit rate of dogs and cats seems to be very high, and the voice of joy is overflowing on the net. However it is not perfect. There are also a few voices saying "The camera can not recognize my cute cat/dog".

I did not know what you expected. But it is nice to know what animal faces are cat- or doglike enough

Thank you for your valuable opinion.
Fortunately, there seems to be no pet around me that needs to say that.

In fact, 80% is solved by "Check the menu is properly activated".
To error is human.

The second is beyond the AF capability in that situation.
Animal Eye Tracking brings out the full power of AF, but it's not magic. There is a limitation with dark illumination and slow AF lenses, etc.

Maybe that's the one with a high hit rate for Animal Eye Tracking.

In Japanese there is a word called "eye power".
In my personal impression, I think that the hit rate is higher for animals with eye power.
But the story may be reversed, I may feel the eye power by focusing well.

It is very difficult to explain with my limited language skills.
These are the pictures I thought to have "eye power".
