Domien,
That's certainly a "LOOK AT ME!!!" piece of architecture. And I must say the first thing it reminded me of is some of the recent images of semi-destroyed buildings on the front line in Ukraine. Not exactly a welcoming sight. No doubt it has met the client's brief in terms of functional content, site yield and budget, or it wouldn't have been approved and built. Assume it's residential apartments? or is it mixed use offices and residential? Not exactly my cup of tea, but certainly eye catching. |

I see what you mean Joe.
Of course, the work was commissioned long before the Ukrainian war. It is an architectural wet dream. No two apartments have the same layout, bricks were computer-aided cut to precisely fit, et cetera. The balconies all get little trees to make it hanging garden, but that will take a few years. The building mixes residential (rental) apartments, offices, and retail. I had to walk around it and take some pictures. It's so in your face. |

A great set of this extraordinary building, Domien. And as so often with our images I very much like your postprocessing.
But there is something disturbing for me. The verticals are corrected in an absolute manner (not converging above the building) - but this correction comes with a rather confusing impression: that the two large vertical masses are really torn apart in the sense that they are falling - to the (left/right) edges of the image. Maybe I am the only one who has that irksome feeling. There is a rule that you find quoted in some of the books on architecture photography: If you are photographing a building that is higher than 20m from a position on the ground you should allow the verticals to converge above the building - even if that is very high above the building. That would mean to tilt the verticals on the left hand side of the image a little bit to the right and on the right hand side a little bit to the left. There is another solution for the problem (if it is a problem) which I have seen professional architecture photographers using: bring a ladder and climb it to leave the ground position. Then correct the verticals. It surprisingly works very well (even if it is a household ladder with only four steps). I wonder what you think about this. TFS! |

It is an eye catching building for sure and I think, looking at the impression at the Valley website that it will be beautifull in time. As if nature takes over, disguising the hard torn apart part.
The processing of nr 4 works best for me. |

It is a long walk around the building. You have to pass the sport fields. But it is a remarkable building, worth the walk. |

So I checked that the verticals were ' correct' but I had to do that over and over again because it didn't feel good. In reality, for larger buildings, perfect verticals are not necessary. Half the photos one sees of larger buildings converge. I give it a try clearly converging Frontside ![]() backside ![]() The converging certainly isn't disturbing, I think |

Great series Domien. I had exactly the same thoughts as Jozioau (before I had read them).
The latest set with some converging doesn't bother me at all. TFS |

Thanks, Peter and Fred
Part of the sporting area are some stands. I'll climb them next time I take photos there. |

This building is really confusing its viewer!
Puzzling, excellent take of it! Thank you, Marius! |
