Assignment #1: Rule of thirds and Golden Mean Thread # 2.
Continued from : Assignment #1: Rule of thirds and Golden Mean This assignment is about two compositional methods, Rule Of Thirds and Golden Mean. They are proven to be a good starting point to gain composition skills. But they are nowhere near the end of the search for the perfect picture, so don't stick to them always. The real point of this task is to look for a pre-defined composition in the environment around you. I suggest you read this great source about these composition principles. If you are confident that you know about them enough, you may skip this stage. You will shoot a picture using the Rule of Thirds or Golden Mean, or a combination of both. No studio shots/no interfering with the subjects. You must not change the natural layout of the scene. Only cropping in one direction is allowed.

@ x3idave, that's a pass, the main points of the composition emphasized by ROT (as well as a leading line, but don't use the same pic for that assignment) |

@kaidoloor, pls. see the assignment rules.
I see two problems, (1) no shot date/exif included and (2) you can only be active in one assignment at the time. So you first need to pass "leading lines" before taking on your second one. |

Forgot the rules. :D
This one was shot with the goal of satisfying the rule of thirds. If the bird had been cooperative, might have even gotten the golden mean in there. 1/100, f/5.6, ISO 200, 200mm ![]() Hmmm by beardedspoooon, on Flickr |

That's a pass beardedspoooon, the lines of his neck and bill nicely follow the ROT lines with the intersection in the middle of the head.

My apologies Pegelli, I assumed that it uploaded with the image. Some forums make the EXIF data available when the photo is uploaded.
Date of capture was 2013:01:25 14:41:52. Sony A77, DT 16-50 f 2.8 SSM set to 30mm, aperture f7.1 1/200 sec ISO100 Regards Graham |

Thanks, and it's a pass grakat, the head and the legs are nicely placed at diagonally opposed ROT points.
Btw, Dyxum doesn't strip the exif data from your shot, it's usually either your post processing program or your picture host who does that. If your picture host includes the exif an exif viewer will show it on Dyxum. By the format of your filename I think this picture is on Flickr, where passing through the in file exif is possible but not by default. However since I don't use Flickr I can't help you further, but maybe someone else who reads this can. |

Thanks Pegelli,
I will look into the EXIF situation with Flickr, where the picture is hosted. I know Photobucket passes it through. I'll cover my bases, and add the exif data at the bottom of the post too, hopefully it then makes your life easier. Onto the next assignment ![]() |

My new year resolution was to start the photographic assignments. Here's a pic that I tried with the rule if thirds in mind. I took it for day 50 but was definitely thinking about The Rule when I looked through the VF...,
