Poor little woodpecker!
Pallid cuckoo from a walk yesterday, likely with way to much cloning of oof branches. A77, Big Beercan @ 300mm, f/7.1, 1/100sec, ISO200, +1EV |

I'm no expert but I think that may be a Fan-tailed cuckoo (Cacomantis flabelliformis)

I believe you are right mate, just got told the same in an aussie based birding forum. Guess I didn't stare hard enough at the field guides, or more likely still don't have the eye needed to separate some birds!

A farmer was mowing up a field and there are fair few of these birds circling around and occasionally gliding in to scoop up piles of grass. I didn't ever notice any bird dropping his cargo off anywhere though. Then again, it was on another side of a hedge. I believe these may be Red Kites....? I didn't use a "conventional" birding rig. All three with A6000, SEL55-210, cropped to about 3000px (half size) then downscaled to fit on the Dyxum web page. Red Kite 1 Focal Length: 210 mm | Aperture: f/8.0 | Exposure Time: 0.001 sec (1/800) | ISO: 400 Red Kite 2 Focal Length: 210 mm | Aperture: f/8.0 | Exposure Time: 0.001 sec (1/1000) | ISO: 400 Red Kite 3 Focal Length: 210 mm | Aperture: f/8.0 | Exposure Time: 0.001 sec (1/1000) | ISO: 400 |

Been very Lucky lately, second time I've seen skimmers at Carrabelle beach, FL in several weeks. Before now been years since I've seen any. This time I had my A57 + Tamron 70-300.
They always seem to have seaweed stuck in their bills. An occupational hazard Been a long time away from this site, feels good to be back. |

Great shot Peter3400. At first glance I really thought that was a pigeon, lol.
