Nice bit of an afternoon walk along the local river had me luck across a very friendly Laughing Kookaburra that let me in close.

The males start changing colour at around 7 years old, can see the dark patches starting to come in in the above shot.
This is an old shot of a fully coloured male, sadly not out in the light as the feathers take on an almost electric blue sheen in direct sunlight.

Unfortunately bit of a hard crop so some loss of detail.

G'day All,

Just got back from doing a 10 day road trip to far north queensland (approx 5000km return) and spent 4 days at an internationally known birding site photographing Kingfishers (Kingfisher Lodge) and other birds as well of course.

Buff-breasted Paradise Kingfisher (Profile)

Buff-breasted Paradise Kingfisher (Portrait)

Buff-breasted Paradise Kingfisher (Calling the Missus)

Buff-breasted Paradise Kingfisher (Claiming My Territory)

Pale-yellow Robin - Pre-Flight Checks (Flaps and Ailerons - check)

Macleay's Honeyeater (You just get in the tub and the phone rings)

Spectacled Monarch

The area is mostly rainforest and at the time there was rain and very low light and seeing other people were also staying and wandering around the sanctuary, it wasn't possible to have my normal flash setup, so higher ISO and Low shutterspeed was required, so sorry about the noise.

A99
Mino 600F4 + 1.4T.C
Shutterspeed 1/100 - 1/250
Aperture F9
ISO 3200 - 6400

Regards,
Craig

What a set, Craig! And that's about the deepest of deep blues I've seen on a a bird.
Tough to pick a fav but the Robin waving to you before take off is funny.
