Few from last week. Kids at home, so I went out with the little one hanging on my hand. Not ideal for birding, but these are tough times...

Just about all parks around here are now closed. Fortunately Arthur R Marshall Loxahatchee National Refuge is open.

I did mot realize this Anhinga was feeding its young when I took the picture.

In our Autumn, large flocks of noisy Little Corellas fly into neighbourhoods where there are mature Plane Trees (Sycamores) with ripe seed pods that they feed on, delicately extracting the seeds, shredding the irritating fibres and carpeting the ground with the debris. They are gregarious and noisy - you can hear them coming from afar. They are also a bit skittish and at a moment's notice a nervous bird can set the whole flock into the air each bird squawking loudly.

This afternoon they flocked into our neighbourhood and I managed to get a few shots with my a77ii and SAL70400G2. C&C welcome.

3. When they descend on a tree the population density can be quite high.

4. The fibres of the seed pod are a known allergenic irritant but somehow these birds can delicately pick out the seeds from amongst the filaments.

5. Not a great shot, but an impression of part of the huge flock that suddenly took flight with a deafening cacophony.

Thanks for viewing.
