Colorful shot Charles. Never seen these birds. I like it
I'm not sure about the focus though. It seems the blade of grass between the birds are sharpest.

Charles, those partridges in the snow with the strokes of the bare grass stems looks almost Japanese calligraphic. Wonderful image.

Thanks Domien. The challenges of using a telephoto when one is cosy indoors (about 20degrees) and the birds are outside at -17degrees, I find because of the thermal gradient I never get really sharp shots unless if I leave the camera outside to acclimatise.
