Bob, do I understand correctly that these are recent shots? For me it is somewhat weird to see birds already nesting birds or chicks, but in then I guess Florida's warmer climate is quite different from the weather here in northern latitudes as during my passion ornithological expedition in blizzard I spotted this sort of sights:
Common blackbird (Turdus merula) ![]() α7R IV + Sony FE 5.6-6.3/200-600 G OSS @ 600 mm, f/6.3, 1/1600 s, ISO 2000 Mallard (Anas platyrhynchos) ![]() α7R III + Sony FE 4/24-105 G OSS @ 34 mm, f/6.3, 1/320 s, ISO 250 |

All five pictures taken today. The Great Blue Herons start in late December and are finishing up now though some may go for a 2nd nest. From my observations Anhingas mate most all year. February thru May is prime time for most species. The Bald Eagles were a bit early this year. Those pictured were born on January 1. That means they were conceived in late November. BTW, great shots. Thanks. |

Instead of the ubiquitous Great Spotted Woodpecker, I finally managed to get a good shot of its nephew the Middle Spotted Woodpecker
![]() For comparison here's the Great Spotted Woodpecker ![]() And the smallest family member: The Lesser Spotted Woodpecker ![]() A7Riii 100400GM Shots were taken on different days with different lighting and background Edited by Dopol - 10 March 2021 at 21:01 |

Thanks Fred The differences are significant. ![]() The MSW has a red cap and pink belly The GSW has a black cap and an orange forehead The LSW is much smaller, has a red cap but no pink belly (says the guy that learned this stuff only yesterday ![]() ![]() |
