Today we had a little surprise on Governors Island. I would have walked by, but my older grandson noticed him.
Red-tailed hawk on a bench next to the playground.

The last photo shows its prey, probably a caterpillar. Most likely it is a young bird.

Domien, this is one of the few photos I have seen using the 2.0x TC with the SEL100400GM. 1/125th shutter speed is remarkable at 800mm!

Yes, despite the fact that it is near a large city, there are a lot of birds here.
From the birds of prey, I have already seen the falcon, American kestrel, hawk, osprey, Cooper's hawk and turkey vulture.
All within a mile of Manhattan.
But it's not that weird at all.
Manhattan is said to be the habitat with the highest density of peregrine falcons in the world.
