Nice colorful bird Robert. It apparently loves walking.
Seems completely at ease there.

Mariusz and Domien: I have seen Crested Caracaras for years in Florida but was not really sure if they were native. I checked Richard Crossley's Raptor ID and it states that they are native to Texas, Arizona and Florida but much more common in Mexico, Central America and South America. From my experience they seem to prefer open land such as cow pastures.
Caracaras are strong flyers but do spend much time on the ground looking for food including carrion, large insects and reptiles, especially lizards and snakes.
Some appear to be shy and fly and first sight of you but others seem to pay no attention to humans. I suppose just like many other birds and animals there is a bit of individuality flavored by experience.

Beautiful African Birds. I was always fascinated with Hornbills.

Thx Robert.
I saw some caracaras in Costa Rica but mainly photographed them in Holland (in some breeding program).

A European canary and a European greenfinch.

I don't know him

Nice shots on this page. I love the roller and the caracara shots most.

Nice ones Charles.
Particularly the one you presented upside down

Just make sure about earlier photos: Your mum lives somewhere in Africa?

Thanks Domien. These were taken this week here in Winnipeg. The upside-down one was really upside-down when I captured it

The others that I posted in the open forum were from Harare Zimbabwe.

An excellent set snowfella, a productive walk.
For some reason, most of the southern hemisphere birds seem more colorful than ours.
Not always though
Our 'little grebe' looks like this

The teal looks far more colorful than ours (I couldn't find a picture in my archive)
