Thanks:) The first time I was able to capture that ruby crown on his head. The females don't seem to have that |

Charles: Great pictures of the Northern Harriers. Glad all the pieces fit together.
I too have had little luck with them. There are plenty of them out in the fields but they always seem to be too far away or facing the wrong direction. Last week I saw one hovering not very far from my car. I hop out with camera and just as I was about to shoot, a crow comes out of nowhere and scares it away. Red-shouldered Hawks and Eagles seem much more cooperative! |

Great Harrier shots Charles.
I found it (relatively) easy to photograph them, cause they have regular flight patterns. Then again, this one is super-sharp. ![]() TFS |

The crown on the Ruby-crowned kinglet of course makes the shot.

Caracara is sitting on the edge of a cane field minding his own business.

Thanks Domien for the comments. I my neck of the woods, it would be a blessing if they had a regular route or patterns.........then again I suppose I should learn to be more patient. |

Interestingly, Northern Harrier and Hen Harrier have recently been split into separate species after analysis showed distinct lineages. I wish I'd seen one when I visited North America in 2019 - would've had an extra tick on the list!
