For couple weeks I have been attempting to get photographs of the kingfisher that has been wintering along the small stream near my home, today I finally got few reasonably decent shots despite that the bird has tendency to seek thick bushes to hide. Or alternative if the bird was not hiding in the bushes, it was flying quickly away (and I obviously I wasn't prepared to photograph just then).

1. Common kingfisher (Alcedo atthis)

α1 + Sony FE 5.6-6.3/200-600 G OSS + 1.4× TC @ 840 mm, f/9, 1/1600 s, ISO 1600

2. "Can you see me?"

α1 + Sony FE 5.6-6.3/200-600 G OSS + 1.4× TC @ 840 mm, f/9, 1/1600 s, ISO 2000

While walking along the stream, I finally saw another bird that has been spending time there this winter:

3. White-throated dipper (Cinclus cinclus)

α1 + Sony FE 5.6-6.3/200-600 G OSS + 1.4× TC @ 840 mm, f/9, 1/1600 s, ISO 12800

Lovely kardinal shots on the previous page Lee! Especially the first and third. That last woodpecker in the snow is a nice capture too.

It was a gloomy day at Liberty State Park. So I pulled out a Minolta 300/2.8. I found a few birds. I will try to improve the quality on a sunny day and with Sony 200-600

#1 Downy woodpecker

#2 Tufted titmouse

#3 White-breasted nuthatch

#4 Dark-eyed junco

#5 Northern shoveler

#6 Bufflehead (female)
Sony a7R4, a6400. E, A and MD lenses.

Today I once again found out that you don't have to go far to take bird photos, these were taken from my home window as the antenna on top of the neighbouring house seems to be quite popular among birds:

Eurasian magpies (Pica pica)

α1 + Tamron 50-400 mm F/4.5-6.3 Di III VC VXD @ 400 mm, f/6.3, 1/1600 s, ISO 200 (+ some cropping)

Northern goshawk (Accipiter gentilis)

α1 + Sony FE 5.6-6.3/200-600 G OSS + 1.4× TC @ 840 mm, f/9, 1/400 s, ISO 8000

The most beautiful birds pass by in this thread.
And I can only present old shots.
The archive is large enough
well, let's do that...

Although I'm posting a series in Open Views under my Antarctic travels, I feel there's a place here for a sampler of some of those birds.

Addy, I believe those birds you photographed are:

1. Village weaver (Ploceus cucullatus)
2. Cape sparrow (Passer melanus)
3. Helmeted guineafowl (Numida meleagris)
4. Leucistic helmeted guinefowl? I guess this might be a domesticated bird, especially as it has ring on its leg...

ObBird: Tractrac chat (Emarginata tractrac) in the desert near Swakopmund

Thank you! I never had seen a white Guineafowl, but now I think you're right it is a domesticated bird.

Today's birds with Sony 200-600.
This lens, however, is sharper on stopping down to F8.0.
I was suggested by tests that showed sharper F6.3

#1 Northern flicker

#2 Northern flicker

#3 Great blue heron. Like a fakir on nails.

#4 Bufflehead male

#5 Bufflehead female
