I think this is a Tawny Owl.
I photographed it with two off-camera flashes. I knew it would come (I had two mice for him, that he already had killed) After killing the mice he flew off and returned after some time (normal behavior) It then tried to get away with the mouse (that was tied to the branch) It refused to look into the camera and given the time and effort this whole operation had taken (two evenings), I had to settle for these shots. The blood of one mouse is visible, the other mouse is in his beak ![]() and here mouse entrails ![]() ILCE-1 100400GM, all set manual MF F/8, 400mm 1/60s Edited by Dopol - 23 February 2023 at 19:43 |

Thanks Charles
The idea (hope) was to shoot the owl with a mouse in its beak. Well, this is what it looks from behind. |

Nice work Dopol! And yes, it is a Tawny Owl. Here in the UK it's our most common owl species, but one of the most difficult to see because they rarely come out in daylight. I'm an avid birder (with a particular love for owls) but I haven't actually seen a Tawny Owl in three years.

Thanks, Phil
I photograph birds mostly Owls preferably flying, but that was impossible in this setting. If the owl would have taken the effort to look at me, it would have become a B/W shot. Now the patterns in the wing feathers come out better in color. |
