Ken,
What a beautiful image of the hummingbird and its food source against that creamy background. |

Great shot, Ken! The shutter speed was perfect for capturing just a hint of motion blur at the wing tips while rendering head and breast in sharp detail. The DoF was nicely controlled. I appreciate that the flower was also in focus.

I was in the fortunate situation to photograph birds, that, due to corona restrictions, were not used in birds of prey shows. Instead, the owner offered photographers the possibility to shoot them on his farm.
I took lots and lots of photos. What I was most impressed by was the focussing capacities of my A9+100400GM. Even in difficult situations (max shooting rate), the camera was focussing on the eyes of fastly flying birds. I may have overdone it with the number of shots ![]() But I was so impressed. In this series, I restrict to only one Eagle Owl. #1 The star of the show. ![]() #2 Eye focussing on the ground. ![]() #3 Starting from a trunk ![]() #4 ...and on the way... ![]() #5 ..Folding wings... ![]() #6 ..what's that on the left? ![]() #7 And turning left ![]() #8 Some fly by ![]() Watch the instruction text on the inside of the wing ![]() #9 Focus on the eye ![]() #10 More fly by ![]() #11 Wing patterns ![]() #12 ![]() #13 Flying towards me ![]() #14 Do some inflight shouting ![]() I have many more Eagle-owl shots and I will not bore you with them. And I'm going to look at the little owl shots now. And then there are hoepoes, white-tailed eagles, several other owl species. Tell me when to stop ![]() TFL and any comments are welcome of course. Domien - remarkable photos. What a great advert for the gear, and the photographer!
Of all of them, my favourite is #8, but they're all very good indeed. |

Stunning shots, Domien.
If I ever do move to E-mount, it would be due to the 100-400 and/or 200-600 and *only* for bird shots. |

Thanks guys.
Results were better than anticipated. During shooting I wasn’t sure about the focusing. If I would have had one of these shots, say ten years ago, my day would have been made. I wonder what still can be improved over the coming years. Anyway, I’m superglad with the 100400GM ![]() |
