Charles, 'our' skylarks look far less colorful than 'your' meadowlark (not in flight though)

I was walking the Pembrokeshire Coastal path and a bird flew by out of the corner of my eye


Pigeon | A7 III and FE 70-300 G OSS

You can imagine my disappointment, such a prosaic bird in such a lovely location.

I was photographing at high speed at the time.
I came home with over 1500 photos in 3 hours' time.
So it is no surprise I missed this one and I'll probably find another one at some moment in time.

I know the feeling, I have been sorting out my recent photos from the last few weeks, but there are few thousand per day (α1 can take so many shots in just few seconds), so this can be a hard chore...

Being a sea bird that likes to live on somewhat remote outer islands it may not be the easiest bird to see. And apparently the southmost location for these is Heligoland in Germany.

These birds have a colony at Haverörnen island in middle of Finnish Gulf. There is also some common murre (Uria aalge) there, spot the birds with thinner and sharper beaks. Last Saturday I took part in a birding cruise that visited the waters around that island.

On the plus side, given the location it's probably a genuine Rock Dove, rather than a feral 'pigeon'. Living in London I very rarely get out to locations where 'proper' Rock Doves live.
