Impressive shots Peter.
From your swallow shots I remember you are pretty good in predicting their flight.
These shots are as good and sharp (and more colorful)
My EXIF reader has given up, so I have to ask you.
At what shutter-speed were the shots taken?

Thanks Joe and Domien. These were shot at 1/3200 or 1/400sec. I always shoot in manual mode and generally start at 1/3200 for a fast moving target and even then there is often wing tip blur. If the light is good then I go higher. I'll try to post some more later today at various speeds as I have some at 1/2000sec I think.

It's a dull morning here so I decided 'no time like the present' to get these done before I start work.
This one is 1/2000sec. F 6.3 ISO 800 To me it looks a little blurred, possibly the angle

And there's more, it was a productive shoot but they're all essentially the same , just different wing positions and backgrounds...

Peter, you're a master of this genre.
Sure the latest Sony cameras, lenses and AF algorithms help, but it's the photographers mastery of technique, not to mention the understanding of animal behaviour, that captures such excellent images.
It's a real pleasure to see them.

The smaller the bird, the more skittish they are and hence the more difficult to shoot.

Thanks guys. Yes Sashi their small size doesn't help but with these their flight is totally unpredictable which adds to the challenge. Unfortunately we don't have them here in Victoria as I would certainly love to get more opportunities to target them. Maybe I'll just have to move north
