I'm sure I could shoot like that if I had an A1!
Lovely shot. |

Thanks, Allan Sashi
I’m sure you could Sashi. Just a matter of being on the right place at the proper time. And an A1 of course |

Well, It's the start of week 5 in Nanjing. I've been working most of the time, except when I caught Covid19. so my planned week of sightseeing and photography was spent in Hotel room feeling less than ideal.
Still, there are some birds around by some of the local lakes. Alas, I only have my 24-105mm lens, which isn't the greatest for bird photography. But I did take this pic of a flying heron with it. I might have to bring a longer telephoto lens on the next trip. ɑ1 with Sony 24-105mm |

Yes, you should bring a longer lens.
A1 has a high 'cropability', but not enough for birding The reflection still makes it a nice photo |

I was in an area of Spain with much bird of prey activity earlier this year.
This was when they decided it was enough and left Bird runway Two griffon vultures, a red kite, and two black kites A1 100-400GM Edited by Dopol - 11 November 2023 at 16:04 |

Yeah, if I'd had my 100-400mm the image would have been much better. But after weeks of work, plus Covid, it was nice to get out and take some pics, even if they are mediocre. |

Oh that's marvellous, I like the way the birds in the sky add to the overall story in the photo. It looks like it was a great trip. |

@Dopol
That's a great capture of the two birds in conflict @Brandy Another great set of pictures. I especially like the frame-filling sulphur crested cockatoo, and the twisting rosella. |

Wonderful to see these images.
And for me it's so remarkable how all the associated technology: autofocus, algorithms, focus speeds, shutter speeds, rapid fire exposures, micro-processors, AI such as specific birds' eye autofocus, high ISO without image degradation, and so on have evolved at lightning speed over such a short timeframe. It isn't all that long back that the first practical DSLRs hit the market (for us Dyxummers, the Minolta 7D and then the 5D with their 6 megapixel sensors) and haven't we come far and fast since then. Of course its the mastery of the equipment, the understanding of its capabilities and limitations, best use of settings, and carefully studied animal behaviours by the photographers that are so crucial in capturing the moment, but all that tech certainly brings many exceptional images to us to appreciate and inspire. |

@Jozioau
I agree completely. My first DSLR was the ɑ100 so I was a little later to the 'Dyxum party', but it wasn't until I had the ɑ700 that I was attempting birds-in-flight. Even with good knowledge of the birds and their behaviour, it was easy to be defeated by the conditions. In comparison the ɑ9 and then the ɑ1 has meant shots that would have been impossible before, are now attainable. And the difference between an ɑ1 and ɑ100 is just stunning to comprehend. It makes me wish I'd had something like it for many of my earlier expeditions overseas! |
