Brian, I think the egret in the first photo is not a great egret (Ardea alba) as this bird has dark beak and yellow legs, that description matches snowy egret (Egretta thula) better.

ObBirdInFlight: Common starling (Sturnus vulgaris)

α1 + Sony FE 5.6-6.3/200-600 G OSS @ 600 mm, f/6.3, 1/1600 s, ISO 320

Thanks, Heikki. It was a tough call for me. I had thought Snowy from the color of the beak. But adult Snowy has black legs and yellow feet while Great has yellow legs and black feet. Your comment prompted me to go back for another look at the Cornell web site. The black at the tip of the beak and hint of gray at the ends of the primary feathers is starting to have me think this is a juvenile Little Blue Heron. All three are year-round residents in coastal North Carolina.

Cheers... Brian

looks like a juvenile Little Blue Heron to me, i'm looking at the bicolor bill, black on the tip, that is Little Blue Heron; yeah the juvenile is all white, and the same size as a Snowy.
