Reading this thread brought tears into my eyes. Something that almost never happens otherwise (being a guy and all that).

And I have never met Brettania. Only explanation I can find is that having read his friendly, wise and mature postings during the years, somehow a memory of an extraordinary human character has grown in my mind, without me consciously being aware of it.

He simply made a big impression in my heart.

Cameron, wherever you are, your life and deed made this a better world. And if there is another world, there isn't a shadow of doubt that you with great enthusiasm are making that one better too!

My sincere condolences to his family and friends.

O no .. to me Cameron was one of the most important persons here. When i joined in 2008, he PM'ed me with a nice message. His kindness was his best side.
I know he was struggling with his health, but this comes as unexpected and hard. It makes me very sad. Cameron: rest in peace, you will be remembered here.

Dyxum is one of the rarest of communities on the internet; one where every member is guaranteed the same level of civility and respect as long as they are civil and respectful. Differing opinions are respected and protected, and members are free to speak their minds because they feel safe. Bullies either change they're behavior or they "get out of town".

Cameron Hill ("brettania") made Dyxum that way. From the beginning he was the "gentle but firm" leader, who over time developed a team of admins, mods, and AE's who jointly work to balance the high level of civil behavior and good manners without choking off free speech. Cam was pretty successful in creating and maintaining a community structure that succeeds. This site has been visited over 58 MILLION times in a little over 11 years. That's a pretty great legacy.

Rest in peace, Cam.
At Dyxum, may you continue to rule, Brettania!

I read the very sad news this morning and I still cannot believe it is true.
Cam was my "mentor" here. He was the one to invite me to be an Alpha Eye, and later, when I PMed him with a suggestion for the Knowledge Base Forum, he offered me to become a moderator and just do it.
As many of us, I've never met him, but was in touch with him via this forum, and we had many private conversations. I do feel that I lost someone from my family.

Rest in peace, Cam.

Like many others here, I was shocked to read this sad news.
I enjoyed various interactions with Cam through this forum and via PMs over the years, and it is obvious his character and ethos have been so vital in making Dyxum the wonderful place it is today.
His presence will be deeply missed but that guiding set of principles remain, and will be carried over in the work of those remaining here, in a lasting and fitting tribute.
Condolences to his family, and to those Admins, Mods and Eyes who were so close to him.

Very sad news indeed. Cam welcomed me to the Dyxum fold, and although I never met him I felt as though I had. My sincere condolences to his family and if there's a Dyxum in the sky he will be as loved there as he was here.
