"De Hef" in Rotterdam. An idle 4 track railway bridge across the Maas now being replaced by a tunnel but kept in place as an engineering heritage monument. At the time of this photo (oktober 2015) the middle (moving) part was removed for maintenance, in the meantime it's put back in place.

Yes, I think the cost of doing that is only a minor fraction of the cost to build the yacht and Besos will pay for it. And as the middle piece can be removed for maintenance (as my photo shows) I think the protests to leave the bridge intact and don't let the new yacht pass are a bit far fetched.

The wharf of course knew the ship had to pass the bridge when they started building it. I am sure they made sure it was allowed. And to Besos it is pocket money...

Still, nice bridge and interesting controversy

It's actually quite new. This is what it looked like in 2003.

And one year later (2004)

Wonderful light in @onsplekkie's photo of Stari Most.
It was blasted away in the Bosnian wars and the commander who ordered its destruction was prosecuted afterwards. It was carefully reconstructed with UNESCO assistance and now just needs a few centuries of patina to blend in.

Here's a photo I took in 2015.

Waiting to cross the (pontoon) bridge

NEX6 + M-Summaron 35/2.8

This bridge was temporarily constructed in 2014 across the river Schelde in Antwerp to commemorate that a similar bridge was built there 100 years ago that allowed a lot of people to flee the city when the German invasion of Belgium started at the beginning of WW1.
