These are very interesting photos of a fascinating structure. Is this built into a hillside, or does it just have gardens placed on the roofing? Hopefully that roof doesn't leak!

Hi Kelly, thanks for the comment.

It's a building on level ground, but by design the rrofs were covered by a ~2 meter layer of earth to mitigate the effect of enemy bomb-shells landing there. Since these forts don't have a military function anymore nature took over and created a small forest on top. And rest assured, the roofs do leak

Thanks, Pieter! I suppose they should have built better drainage for that roof! I'd guess there is a lot of weight on it. Maybe a faulted ceiling below? In any case your photos kind of peak my interest and get my old mind wondering about things like this!

Restored bakers house, right next to the windmill in Oelegem (Belgium), so the flower produced in the mill could be turned into bread right nextdoor
