While changing a lens on my A68 I noticed that the mirror was damaged, a sort of figure of 8 shape lying on its side, about 5 mm in length just above the mirror release clip and in the middle, no idea how. It does not appear to be affecting focus or light meter readings, and is not visible in the viewfinder or lcd screen. I looked for a new mirror but they seem like hen`s teeth. It seems all SLT cameras use the same mirror, and I was considering buying one being sold for Parts/Repair and swapping the mirror, saw an A55 for less than the possible cost of the mirror. How long can I put off repairing it? It does not seem to be affected, photos still seem ok to me. The question is, repair or replace?
Any views welcome John |

I had the exactly same issues with all my SLT models (a99 and a77 II).
It started with some small damages and later it will getting more worse and visible in the pictures. As it affected the pictures, I had replaced them. It's no problem to exchange them. - Is done within a few minutes and some tutorial are available on Youtube or other sites. Do you have tested if you seen any issues at f8 or f16? - I think it's a good idea to replace the mirror, if it's visible within the picture. The part is available as "POI" or "replacement mirror". Sony part number A1855640A. If you search for the part number, you find it on Eb*y, Am*z*n, etc. |

Luckily my damage is still the same size. I looked up the cost of a mirror, and decided an dead A55 at £40 was cheaper, and I have a camera to play with

Good to know, that you have some spare parts found!
I am not sure, how long such replacement parts will be produced by Sony after a discontinuing of the cameras. Eventually, anybody else have an idea? |

Good morning all!Just a thought that I had as my A7ii with the LAEA4 adapter has been referred to as basically an A99. Any chance that the adapters could be subject to this as well?

They've dropped compatibility with the LA-EA4 on newer cameras , presumably they only make the LA-EA5 now . They won't produce new replacement parts for discontinued models . So once they've run out of spares , your S.O.O.L ! If you have no intention of upgrading your camera and adapter and want piece of mind , buy a spare mirror while there still available. I keep meaning to pick one up for my a99ii and a77ii. I do have an a37 and a faulty a35 that I could use for parts though. Edit. If you want a mirror for your adapter , put a " Want to buy" add on here . A number of people have removed the mirror out of there's when they converted it into the LA-EA4r with the Monster Adapter chip . So if they never plan on reversing the conversion might be willing to let it go . I'm thinking of converting mine as unlike my LA-EA5 it allows AF withy Minolta teleconverters and multi AF points with the 500mm f/8 Reflex lens . I'll be keeping the mirror though . The Spares/Repair A55 arrived this afternoon, Bought on Friday from Harrisons Ebay shop, delivered Sunday, courtesy of EVRI, so tomorrow is sorted after a bit of Googling how-to videos. Camera looks very clean with a rear LCD screen that looks good - resell?
Many thanks for your help and thoughts. If it has any more problems I know where to get help, though in all honesty a serious problem may lead to its funeral, and me concentrating on the RX100 John |

IIRC you have to remove a piece off the back of the adapter to remove the mirror . Easy enough . |

If someone ever needs a Full Frame SLT-mirror - i assume those of the LA-EA4 will fit too (and i changed those into LA-EA4r's and do hope we'll never have to reconvert those into LA-EA4's again)...
[i did the monster conversion on two 2nd hand LA-EA4's). Today i upgraded one of those into firmware version 8. We'll have a look within a few minutes while uploading an image into the 28mm-challenge week (one has version 7 and this one used to have version 6). The even version one has a red tape on it - the uneven version a gray tape. I'm still trying to find out how good the Nikon and Pentax convertors to e-mount from Monster are... (and to decide to get them or not - the same goes for the other model to adapt contax lenses - the zeiss glass with AF). Maybe i should post this in another thread. |

The a99/99ii and the LA-EA4 mirrors are different . The a99 mirror steps in quite abruptly near the top . Ebay link The One in the LA-EA4 is more curved . Ebay link And the ones out of the APS-C cameras are square . Ebay link |
