Show us... Bodie, California

Show us cities of the world is your chance to show us where you live, or where you've been. Please feel free to share pictures from this location, or start a thread for a new location. The usual Dyxum content rules apply - but to assist fellow Dyxumers inspired to visit locations that are shown, please indicate where in your town/city the photos were taken.

This thread is open for C&C and for posting additional pictures. Please ONLY post pictures taken at Bodie, California - or start a new thread.

Bodie is now one of the Ghost Towns of the West, but it might well have developed into a city if history would have turned differently.

@Coast
Welcome to Dyxum!

Personally, since night photography is one of my favorites, I would love to see your night shots here.
You need to have your images stored on some hosting website - like Flickr or Photobucket and use the images' URL's for linking the images to your posting on DYXUM. You cannot store images on the DYXUM server.

This is a link which explains the procedure. Feel free to ask if you have any problems.

Looking forward to see your images!

Thanks, I'll start work on that, probably w photo bucket. I might take this opportunity to do a little post production work on the photo's, not much I rather like them in their pristine state. This might take me a little while.
Being a "knight owl" I have a lot of night photo's. I'm also a life long Minolta guy, which is why I'm happy to be here

                                         Thanks;   Coast

I have 2 Bodie albums; 1 in all color and 1 in all black & white. This image is the cover shot for the color one. This photo was taken @ Midnight May 25, 2015. It was pitch BLACK
This is a Midnight shot in a real "Ghost Town"

If your wondering it's slightly out of focus and gives it a little more of a Ghostly feel
All shots were taken w a Sony a6000 & the Zeiss 16-70mm

Hi Coast, google pics really doesn't work with our forum software, since they don't put a .jpg at the end of a picture file name. You really need a hosting site like Photobucket, Flickr, Smugmug or several others.

EDIT: Our wizard MiPr found a way to post pictures from google, see here, and changed your first post to demonstrate it

I've been able to change one of your links into a "live one" and hidden the other posts to remove a bit of clutter from the thread.

If you want to practice posting shots this is the thread to do that.

Good luck!

The night sky at 9,000ft w no city lights is truly something to witness.
The photo was taken at midnight, the sky looks lit up from the long exposure but it was pitch BLACK; 30 sec exp, 1 small flashlight

3 It was a Stormy Night (Thunderstorms) Took advantage of the puddles and their reflections

This shot was at Twilight. I was there from 6pm when the park closed till 1am. Therefore I have twilight and dark photos
There were no photo opportunities during rain. At 9,000 ft altitude it was pretty cold at midnight but the stars did come out. It was wonderful!

I call this image "The Road to Perdition" after my favorite Paul Newman, Tom Hanks movie.

Coast, as mentioned in the other thread posting albums doesn't work. You have to post individual photo's.

Also pls. don't clutter up the thread with sequential posts if it doesn't work, just go to "post options" and choose "edit post" from the drop down menu and make a change. I'll hide the failed attempts, you can still make changes to them and if it works I'll unhide them.

Btw, Google still tells me I cannot access your album page if I paste the link directly in my browser.

30 I'm gettin out-a Here

I was compelled to tell this story also in B & W because it seems to tell "Time" better and B & W seems to bring out the"GHOST" in Ghost Town. It was an amazing experience spending a night photographing in a Ghost Town. The last hour I took my eye out of the view finder, put my camera away and just soaked up the "Americana" of the land and the heavens of the brilliant sky above.
Bodie is by far the best preserved Ghost Town because it is in such desolate and inaccessible place no one even bothered to loot it. At almost 9,000 ft winters were incredibly brutal. I didn't expect much because only 10% is said to remain due to fire's, but there is a lot there.
Thanks Coast

All night long I was like a little kid in Disneyland

I thought the color versions were worth posting too. The B & W seemed to take us back in time and the color seemed to make it come alive for today. The night sky was FANTASTIC

I think I should post a couple of photos going over Sonora Pass, Sierra Nevada, aka Vietnam Veterans Memorial Hwy, getting to Bodie. Elevation almost 10,000ft. It got pretty steep and snowy up on top.

_________________________To BODIE ACROSS SIERRA NEVADA ON SONORA PASS

The travel to Bodie was exactly from the Pacific Coast to the Nevada state border going over the Sierra Nevada at Sonora Pass. I had been over all the other passes, Lake Tahoe, Yosemite, and many more. but never Sonora. I'm used to mountain driving. It was still an Adventure
Here are some pics
