Raasepori (or Raseborg in Swedish) is a city in Western Uusimaa in Finland. As a city with this name, it is fairly new entity as it was formed when cities of Tammisaari (Ekenäs) and Karjaa (Karis) and municipality of Pohja (Pojo) merged, although the region has quite a long history as the name of the city comes from the Castle of Raasepori, which was built in 14th century and abandoned in 1553 and therefor is now partially ruined condition. And Tammisaari got the city rights in 1528 and also 1500s saw the foundation of the first industrial villages (called "ruukki" in Finnish and "bruk" in Swedish) in the area.
