Saint John's on the island of Newfoundland is the most easterly town of the North American continent and played an important military role in WW2 when it was the marine base from where the convoy escort vessels departed to protect all the merchant ships from Nazi U-boat attacks. It's mainly known for its many "Jellybean Houses" and is still an offshore support and fishing harbour Edited by pegelli - 21 June 2022 at 21:41 |

Let's start with a statue for the famous dog breed named after the island "the Newfoundlander"

Thanks for the comments gentlemen, I've only been there a day and a half so my collection is somewhat limited, but I have some more to share
Yes Domien, "that" is a Newfoundlander, probably modeled a bit on the skinny side or just groomed so the thick fur they normally have is not as voluminous (or in the wet state as a true rescue dog) Newfoundland is part of the province Newfoundland and Labrador, so the other provincial dog was honoured with a statue as well ![]() These colourful beer chairs are put up all over the island, even on a small field next to the cemetery ![]() Cemeteries are plentyful with many old graves. I think the abundance of free land might have something to do with that ![]() The Yellowbelly beer brewery and pub in the St John's city center ![]() Reflections ![]() Even some letterboxes honour the Jellybean style ![]() Another yellow example ![]() A bit further from the city center a few smaller mansions can be seen ![]() All except Yellowbelly brewery: A7ii + Tamron FE 28-200 Di III RXD Yellowbelly brewery: A7Rii + Tamron FE 20/2.8 Di III VXD |

Great set, again, Pieter!
The "beer chairs" are usually called "Adirondack chairs" or "Westport chairs" - due to their origin - but I think you already knew that. TFS! |

Signal Hill is a hill which overlooks the city of St. John's, Newfoundland and Labrador, Canada. Mostly a National Historic Site. The highest point, Ladies' Lookout, above Cabot Tower, is 167 metres (548 ft) high. The community of The Battery lies on the slope of the hill overlooking the Harbour.
Due to its strategic placement overlooking the Narrows, the only entrance to the harbor, fortifications date back to the mid 17th century.
