Some great shots Waldo. The first shows a view i haven't seen often, nice you took a high view here. The cars on the foreground are not very attractive, but this vp shows the area better than shots where the bridge is isolated (as most do). Love the early evening shots too, had the feeling #16 could benefit from some more sky. Great mood though. While #15 looks fantastic, i have the feeling it is slightly rotated ccw - but i'm not fully sure. TFS

Thank you, Michel, for your comments. I have corrected #15 - I saw what you meant, there definitely was a rotation ccw. This was kind of a hasty shot since I was shooting with a different camera up there, a Toyo 4x5 in. field camera and Ilford FP4. I hope it is allowed to add two shots from the field camera here, one with a different view from Bernal Heights (to the SF Bay), the other shows some WW II coast defenses located in the Fort Funston/Golden Gate National Recreation Area.

#19 View from Bernal Heights (2)

#20 Battery Davis / Fort Funston

Those two last B&Ws kinda spoil the effect. They need more contrast. The rest of the set is excellent with #2 and #3 the standouts for me.

I finally got to the Bay on a really clear day so I could get a clean shot of Alcatraz, but then a couple of boats with ridiculously big sails got in the way.

    Later,

    Jerry.

@waldo_posth
Great set of images of a city I've not yet visited, but hope to some day.
These have really whetted the appetite.
All very pleasing to the eye but my favourites are 2, 3, 11, 12, 13, 14, 17 and 18, plus the one of Alcatraz contributed by @jcoffin.

Thank you and sorry, I have no adequate scanner for these negatives. I pushed it a bit and gave them more contrast, though.

Yes, and they were ridiculously fast - 55 mph?

Since there is so much to be seen in this area I have added a couple more.

#21 The classical view

#22 Bonita Cove with Point Bonita Lighthouse (view from Hawk Hill) - Golden Gate National Recreation Area

#23 Another view of the Golden Gate Bridge - from the marshlands adjacent to Crissy Field

#24 View from Fort Funston to Parkside and Sunset (at the horizon)

#25 Angel Island ferry (view from Tiburon)

#26 Cable Car (view uphill from the Cable Car Barn)

#27 In the Cable Car Barn - the cables

#28 On California street

#29 The Streets of San Francisco

#30 The view from Tank Hill - fog rolling in (A99 in-camera panorama)

Thanks for viewing!

Mr. Waldo: Your photo #1 is the one I commented on. It's the view of the bridge I have never seen before, and like I said I live there. It may have been done before, but it certainly isn't common enough for me to have seen it. I really like the piano keyboard effect the cars give to it. All your photos are excellent.
It looks like you were here for the America's Cup. Fascinating race. People who live here know not to bet against Larry Ellison. I'm betting your shot of Union Square was taken from the Cheesecake factory.
I had a thought. The Bridges of San Francisco must be some of the most photographed bridges in the world, if not the most. Would it be worth while starting a post: "The Bridges of San Francisco"? There are actually 5 major bridges that cross the Bay, only 2 are really worth photographing. Personally I would like to see all the photos the artists in this community have. I really like Dyxum. The International reach we don't get so often in the US. I have only started to scratch the surface. Thanks; Coast
Here is one of mine

I also have some interesting Night shots of City Hall

Hi Coast!
#1 is the view from Hawk Hill to the Bay (#22 is looking in the opposite direction, to the Pacific). Coming from Sausalito I walked up Conzelman Rd. - I think, you are right, on a day of the America's Cup Race. I think most of the images showing the bridge sunk in fog and only the very top of the pillars visible are made here or on the road.

I'd be happy to post some images on "Bridges of San Francisco" if you open a thread - just create one in "Themed Views". So I save mine for the moment, except the following one where you can see the Golden Gate Bridge through the windows of my absolute favorite restaurant in SF: "Greens" (located at Fort Mason Center).
All the best, Harald

Thanks Harald, I think I'm learning the Dyxum way and will certainly try to do better than the debacle of my first post. This may take a while, I'll have to gather my bridge pics and place them in some order into an album. Living here I have so many. It's almost impossible to stop taking pics of them.
Also I'm preparing to attend "Friends of Bodie Day" on 8/8. Which they say I have become one.I can't imagine a hotter day to be there. Actually my main goal is to try and capture the Milky Way in that fantastic Night sky.
On Aug 6-7-8 Reno Nevada has its annual celebration of the American Hot Rod "Hot August Nights". Hot Rodders bring there Hot Rods from all over Calif. They parade them around, there are car shows the whole time. These Rods are as fancy as it gets. Saw you had some pics of classic American Iron, nice. So I'm going up there for that and then drop down to Bodie on the 8th.
Have started preparing driving to Mt. Rushmore and back, really looking forward to that trip in mid Sept. Looking around to pick up a wide angle for my a6000.
But I'm going to start work on that "Bridges of San Francisco" post kind of like "Streets of San Francisco"?          Thanks much for your help. I really admire someone who's spirit gets them to a place like Bodie "WOW"            Josef

Hi Josef!
I wish you all the best for your trips to Bodie and Mt. Rushmore! Looking forward to the pictures (of the Hot Rods as well, if you get a chance). And if you have some spare time and open the "Bridges of SF" thread we will meet there again. BTW: You posted quite a number of excellent shots on the Bodie pages - there is no reason to be demotivated!
