Show us... Venice, Italy

Show us cities of the world is your chance to show us where you live, or where you've been. Please feel free to share pictures from this location, or start a thread for a new location. The usual Dyxum content rules apply- but to assist fellow Dyxumers inspired to visit locations that are shown, please indicate where in your town/city the photos were taken.

This thread is open for C&C and for posting additional pictures. Please ONLY post pictures taken at the town or city indicated- or start a new thread.

For the following images I used three cameras: an IR-converted Sony A5100, then my backup camera, a Sony A6000. I have a second backup camera now, a Sigma Quattro SQ - I apologize for smuggling in a couple of images made with it. The Sigma can share its lenses with the Sony cams via the MC-11 adapter.

The first small set of images originated in a walk from Cannaregio to the Piazza San Marco - starting at 05:00 hours in the morning.

#1 The first morning light - view from Accademia bridge to the Basilica di Santa Maria della Salute

#5 Piazza San Marco - view to the Chiesa di San Gorgio Maggiore

#6 Gondolas - and the Chiesa di San Gorgio Maggiore in the background

#7 Reflecting the morning light - Fondamenta Zen

C&C always welcome! Thanks for viewing!

What a great set! I have been in this beautiful city a couple of times, but these scenes without the tourists are really stunning, almost unreal Looking forward to more of this.

Harald,
I was really surprised that a "Show Us Cities .... Venice" thread didn't exist before you created it!
It's so often photographed, and indeed featured in this forum, and of course everywhere else.
It certainly looks magical through your eyes and lenses.
A beautiful set, and I particularly like the ones you took in the early light. Were the first two taken with longish exposures which "smoothed out" the water?
The motion blurred gondolas, and the night shots are also very appealing.

Joe,
I was surprised was well.
Thank you (and all others) for your kind comments.
You really have to look for the magic of Venice, but it's still there. Some more images will follow soon.
The motion blurr is achieved by an 15 stop ND filter.
All the best, Harald.

Sure, I hope more DYXUM members join in and show their Venice treasures.

This June has been the first time (it has been my 5th or 6th visit to Venice) that I visited the Cimitero di San Michele, the island where the Venetians are buried since the beginning of the 19th century. The deceased are usually buried in a grave first and after some time move to a stack. Since the cemetery has been filling up gradually new stacks have been built, the most recent by the renown British architect David Chipperfield.

Venice - here come some images which are taken on (and of) the Guidecca - the long, narrow island opposite San Marco.

#39 View from the Giudecca to San Giorgio Maggiore

On this bank of the Guidecca (way down) you find the Casa dei Tre Oci which until September 17, 2017 houses a retrospective of the photographic work of David LaChapelle - see here. This is an outstanding exhibition, IMO. For more information on LaChapelle see here.

#40 Environmentally not friendly: large cruise ship in the Guidecca channel

#41 The Guidecca - like Cannaregio - is a place where Venetians live (and where tourists gather only at very few places)

#42 Guidecca - living quarters

#43 Clothes lines

#44 Parking garage - for boats!

#45 The yellow dress - seen on the bank of the Guidecca (apology for the duplication, already posted elsewhere)

... and some more images of Venice in the golden hour and at the end of the day:
#46 Fondamente Misericordia

#47 Fondamente Misericordia

#48 Campo San Giovanni e Paolo

#49 Fondamente Nuove

C&C always welcome! Thanks for viewing!
