Some for our visit January 09 - feel the pain of these as i walked around for 2 weeks with an undiagnosed ruptured Achilles tendon,

1 Don't know which building but probably one the royal palaces? judging by the crown.

Not actually Vienna but a short train ride away is Tullin, where I found this statue to Egon Schiele which looked great in the snow.

I was very much taken with the design of some of the metro stations we passed through in Vienna. This led me to discover the work of Otto Wagner. He was very interested in urban planning and in 1890 designed a new city plan for Vienna, but only his urban rail network, the Stadtbahn, was built. After 1976 the network was subsumed into the Vienna U-Bahn system.

Friedensbrucke station

Karlsplatz Stadtbahn Station, designed by Otto Wagner and Joseph Maria Olbrich and are, unlike the other Stadtbahn stations, made of a steel framework with marble slabs mounted on the exterior.

Gumpendorfer Strasse station

I also visited Wagner's Österreichische Postsparkasse (Austrian Postal Savings Bank) in the city, a fabulous example of early modernist architecture. The rivet theme runs throughout the building, even reaching the interior clock.

Surprisingly not more Dyxumers have visited Vienna. I visited Vienna for a couple of hours in 2001 on my way to Kosovo. I visited the Hundertwasser museum and the park at SSchloss Schönbrunn. Beautiful city. Thank you for your picture, Mark!

Well, it seems some of us are turning up now. This was my second visit in 40 years, and I'll start at the Hundertwasserhaus. (Sadly some earlier photos in this thread are lost to us now.)
