Former island of Walcheren, now peninsula, in the province of Zeeland, is located in the south-west of Holland. 3 municipalities: provincial capital Middelburg, Vlissingen (aka Flushing -w. Flushing, NYC was named after-) and Veere, i.e. 3 -smaller- cities & numerous villages. esp. in summertime flooded with tourists who invade our beaches (and more... ![]() 'postcard' from Flushing... ![]() (a580) walking beside the sea ![]() nowhere else in Europe -some say world?- ships pass as close to shore as in Vlissingen/Flushing nowadays these ships are monstrous, which is closely related to the saddening (hi-)story of Doel. Great "postcard" and the last one is great too.
Loved the song as well - thanks for sharing that too (though I am sure I didn't get the full message, not beeing a seaman myself). |

TY both, appreciate!! :-)

Lovely to see such great pictures of Walcheren. I must say I really love the place. I've spent many happy holidays there with my young children - must go back again soon!
My first one was taken early morning at Veere - such a pretty place: This one was also taken at Veere: ![]() These last two are taken in Flushing - a summer's day but with some sea-fog rolling in: |

Thanks angora, yes it's a relatively old shot.
Very nice shots of Vlissinger Michiel. Hero or villain? ![]() And I always say; thank God for gulls. Some people hate them but for photographers it's a great bird! Braisim: love those windmill shots! Perhaps the children in the last one should be cropped or 'neutralized' (in Photoshop of course!). |

aweee... beau-ti-ful!! a delight to watch!!
(is that the big church in the back on pic 1? Napoleon used to stow away his horses in there ![]() hero or villain? you tell me?? ![]() (unable to wrap my head around the fact that 'our' socalled heroes went about 'claiming' land everywhere and even PEOPLE??) TG Michiel is presumably not in my DNA, since my parents are from Gouda (and mother's family originates from Den Helder ![]() I love gulls!! -as long as they behave in a nice 'veggie' manner-. not because they are all over the place. actually I prefer them over posh exotic birds. they are friendly, funny and often very cooperative. even C., who runs a bird- & wild animal shelter, grew to LOVE gulls! my mother hated gulls. she said they caused me a paratyphoid infection at a very young age (but I think soap would have been 'a friend' too? ;-)) ![]() (a580) Jonathan L.S. having a bad feather day stormy weather?
