< forgot- 'verder dan ver' means 'farther/further than far'.
(still guessing what they actually mean though).
the annual Zeeland (coastal) marathon was cancelled last year and seems further away than ever.
although they, optimistically, planned the next one for october this year.

Canal through Walcheren

village of Oost-Souburg + the Souburg bridge

2015- all of the trees still present

tow path from Vlissingen to Souburg

in the distance 1 of the towers of the Middelburg city hall and (tower) de Lange Jan / 'long John'.
every tree on the right will 'have to' be destroyed before 2025.

december 2017- the massacre has begun

@Leo (should you see this)- will you start a new 'former islands of (from-left-to-right) Walcheren and Zuid-Beveland'-thread?
(no particular order). or + Zak van Zuid-Beveland exclusively?
(de Zak being a -protected- national landscape whereas Zuid-Beveland as a whole is not. but Walcheren neither)?

it's obvious that the Netherlands felt the breath of winter as well last week.
deeply frozen and covered in snow.
we experienced the last harsh winter in 2012.

spring has sprung !

after spending a week in the freezer, temperatures rose approx. 25+ degrees C. overnight. (and approx. 30+ elsewhere in the country -still sea climate here- ). from 10+ C. below zero at night to 15+ C., day time, in the shade. lo-ve-ly weather!
still in 2018 though

posse

bicycle path

spreading salt

...lie crushed and broken on the virgin snow

Hollandse aardbeien / 'dutch strawberries'

Dodge RAM 5.7L- large cars, large icicles

greeting card & gift shop, bakery next door

Marskramer- household items & toys

thrift store

bed store replaced a Spar supermarket
(because my ma used to be a very loyal customer, I took many pics of Spar supermarkets -for her-, amazed to find them abroad.
nowadays they seem to face extinction in this country. only a few brave -or forgotten- ones left in the smallest villages).

catch 'em ...if you can

dear visitor,
welcome to the chapel of silence:
a place of contemplation, to light a candle... etc.

+ the usual- 1 person, 1.5 meters, cleaning and so on

'chapel' being the entrance hall of the church, opened daily since corona

on the wall, btw, is not a cloth. it's a photo of the cloth that was stolen from the 'silence chapel' in november.
the church people are still hoping for a remorseful thief.

ice skating on puddles

not yet

and traces of dogs

ice skating on the big pond

idea was to take the camera for a walk and watch the ice skaters, but couldn't find any.
Vlissingen once had an ice rink + de Kom, Middelburg used to have an ice rink + the usual artificial ice rink on the market square, except during corona years?

december 2016

Ritthem still has an ice rink, entrance fee + reserving a time slot mandatory this year.
we used to skate on natural ice and often went on skating tours over the waterways,
but even the big pond was deserted. ice floor didn't look very solid either.

(SO many pics of that pond, but nothing 'normal', with the pond included, I'm afraid )

later on figured the local castles -Ter Hooge, (Toorenvliedt), and Westhove- could have served as backdrops for skaters.
all with huge ponds in front or behind them. another time perhaps? ;)

Westhove, Oostkapelle
age unknown, 1st mentioned in 1277

how much has changed within 2 years...

the thrift store moved into the former cheese shop (on the left) -of which the owner had died :'( -, and the original place was split up into 3 separate parts. the biggest part was added to Primera (tobacco, papers, mags, stationery & postal service agency) next door. the other end, around the corner, became a -mostly- vegan restaurant :D, take-away at the moment.

the Marskramer people retired, -place will be turned into a bicycle store-, as did the people of the greeting cards- and gift (and fireworks) shop, that became a photo studio.
the greengrocer vanished.

the business of the -massive- liquor store skyrocketed and they moved to an even larger store in Vlissingen.
a kick boxing school moved in.

2018

physiotherapist moved a couple of doors to the right, to the bakery. bakery moved into the part of the thrift store on the corner.
(across from it a shoe shop, that hasn't changed a bit since the late 1960s- hence the genuine vintage window).

(5.7 liters !!) RAMs DRINK, Addy, that's what they do!
and hopefully drive too? ;)
at least, our neighbour assured me he manages to make it from pump to pump, without ending up somewhere in between with an empty tank.

look what was hiding behind the tree...

call them 'EXTREME', but the owner of the one below convinced me it's quite fuel efficient.

I often see (look-alike)Fords that appear to be even larger!

celebrating my car's BD today- 35 years of age!
(still have a 'real' car. no mutant (no offense!! ;)) that has to tap into $$$$ workshop computers).

TY! appreciate!
boring, boring...? really regret I was unable to score wintery pics. from 'wonderland'!

btw- the liquor store didn't skyrocket because we are boozers.
nowadays you obviously shop your liquor online.
the country is their customer. and the next country too, according to the site. + even Germany?
they now opened -whatlookslike- a factory. (pics at bottom of this page ).
