That's right, filters that you install in front of the sensor. For Sony only available for the FF a7 series and a9 and also the a5xxx and a6xxx series. No joy for A mounters but available for select DSLRs for all other manufacturers. A good selection of ND, Astro, IR filters and even a clear protector can be had. Now instead of buying filters for each lens you just need it for the body. First link is to the Rob Hall video (using a ND filter with flash to get below HSS timings) where I first saw them and then a link to STC Optics.

I have toyed around with the idea of buying these especially for IR and/or astro where there isn't a lot of changing filters. For normal photography I use ND filters but the main issue is it becomes fiddly to remove the filter after using it since you need to unmount the lens. The positive is of course you don't need step rings or large square filter setups. Also you eliminate filter reflection issues.

The other great thing about these is it'd work with lenses without filter ring or bulbous front element.
