In yesterday's "Revolting", I posted a series of shots from a reenactment of the days of the American Revolution. One character in particular, the "old Codger", garnered more comments then all the other shots combined.
![]() So offered here for Codger fans is a whole series on the hero of the American Revolution. Your comments and suggestions always welcome. Hope you enjoy. #1. Attending to orders, but dreaming of a nice rum toddy. ![]() #2. Uh, you want me to do WHAT? ![]() #3. You can make me do it, but you can't make me LIKE it. ![]() #4. Maybe I can scare the enemy away with a stern look! ![]() #5. No, eh? Then take this! (If I could only see through these bushes!) ![]() #6. Easy there dad. Let's get you home to that nice toddy. ![]() #7. Ah! Making fun of the Codger, are ye?! ![]() Thanks for looking. |

I wonder how old he is. Looks like he'd have a few stories to tell. Part of the appeal of the original image for me was the way that he's isolated from the background subjects who are in the shade, whilst he's in the sun. The rifles form an interesting repeating patten, as do the hats, though they don't overpower his presence. To top it all off the colours are superb. Maybe I'm over-analysing this image and should simply say "I like it".

As a viewer, "I like it" can be good enough. As photographers, we're more concerned with the analysis of WHY a picture makes a viewer say "I like it". As both viewers and photographers, when we find ourselves saying "I like it", sometimes we don't get the most out of the "I Like It" part until we do the analysis and understand WHY. At least that's my psycho-babble theory. ![]() Anyway, I appreciate your "over-analysing". Sometimes it points out things I was incorporating intentionally, and often it points out extras that were subconcious or coincidental. All good food for thought. Walt |

I think he might be able to recall some of his battle from the war itself.

I will do it for you Frank "I like it"
Is this guy a famous model Walt ? because I have seen a Toby Jug recently that was almost certainly modeled on him ! I doubt his tunic has been washed since the revolution ? Joking aside, love these shots and your captions and I trust you pay your scriptwriter adequately ? Roy |

If an English Bull Dog could grow eyebrows like that, it could pass for his brother. It would be nice if the "codger" knew how much we have enjoyed him.
