From time to time, the mods/admins get asked for help with compositional tips this is very flattering, but we don't feel we can put ourselves forward as experts in this field (we are more at 'practitioner' level ;-) however there is lots of talent out there in the membership that we would like to compile into a resource that would be useful to Dyxumers of all levels of experience, so I'd like to start things off by supplying some links/places to look for good advice.

Picture forums: The single biggest improving influence on my photography has been ideas and inspiration I have picked up from seeing other Dyxum members photographs. Particular places to look are:

DPC Winners and Finalists.

Challenge Entries (people shooting under pressure bring out some marvellous shots)

Exhibition posts in Galleries (a distillation of some of the very best shots on the site).

Critics Corner both for the pictures posted, but also for the critique being given

Assignments the first assignment on rule of thirds has been useful to a number of us, but there are some other good ones for composition in there as well.

With any of the above, when you see a picture that really works and draws your eye try to work out what the successful compositional elements are and think how you could use them yourselves.

There are also a number of other resources on the internet that give good advice about compositional 'rules' (although of course, one of the best bits of advice is to be prepared to break these rules when required ;-). Here are a couple of links to get things started, but it would be great if people could post their own, or supply their own compositional tips.
