CYC2021 Talk Thread

Day 7 done! I ended up with a few that I didn't have in mind at all before.
In hat way the challenge was a succes, it challenged my creativity underway
I have really enjoyed all the contributions and will pick up some commenting.

Some comments based on the thumbnails:

@ Gregja: I like the way you slowly revealed your subject, although the typical audio device screw in Day 1 gave it away a bit already for me
All good DOF shots, nicely converted in BW (with the red wire in Day 5 a a nice colour accent). For me #6 is the favourite, but the graphical style of the whole subject in the last one appeals to me too.

@pegelli: Good subject with nice variations. The first four in BW are very strong, with Day 4 as a highlight of creativity, but Day 7 is great and creative too!

@LAbernethy: Orange always appeals to the Dutch . I like the healthy breakfast approach. Day one is my favourite with the mimimalistic approach just orange and white.

@onsplekkie: A high quality set with an interesting subject (the unchained bike). A very diverse set from macro to to street, but with the blue tone as common theme. Day 3 is my pick of this set.

@mikey2000: A good start, a shame that sparks came out of your computer. Curious about the rest.

@Phil Wood: Another slow but fine reveal of the subject. Interesting sculpture(s). Day 4 works very well for me with the blue sky, but I also like Day 5 and how you have disclosed the full scene with the two heads in Day 7.

@Howard_S: A good subject, captured in various ways, from detailed macro to an outside shot with the crocusses in the foregrond bokeh. I like how you've lighted the subject in Day 4, and am curious about your Day 7.

@Addy Landzaat: You didn't make it easy for yourself! Not an easy subject to capture. Nevertheless a nice set, with the blue hour as my favourite. Good you went out in the snow today! (I did, dut with the hard wind and snow, I didn't go out too far with the camera).

@DCap: A creative approach here. The Trip 35 is nicely combined with some vintage decors (Tue and Sat), shown outside and inside (Mon and Thu), put in historical perspective of your photography (Wed and Fri) and subtilly hidden in the nice box for Saturday. So what's next for Sunday?

@alanformbangor: Maybe the most creative set of the whole bunch. After some more 'traditional' (but well captured!) shower details, a few very strong 'portraits' from the shower expericence. Well done!

Thanks Fred and Greg, and Mike for organising it. It's been fun and good to be prompted to try something different while tethered.

Phil Wood wrote: @dcap - I measured the head today, the metallic structure is bigger than I estimated - 1.7m high (from the top of the plinth), but still not in the same ballpark as a double decker bus.

Now even smaller than I imagined - the first 5 shots gave no idea of the scale (and I like that). Fun to see there is another week's worth of images just next to it!

Day 7/Overall Comments
onsplekkie - I've really enjoyed the blue toning/consistency to the set, and the slow reveal. An enjoyable week with day 2 a standout.
pegelli - Lots of humour and different approaches in your set. To be honest I wondered how anyone could take a golf ball over a week and do something different with it each day but you've pulled it off.
addy landzaat - I think you need the intrepid award, for heading out in the snow in the middle of a pandemic just to capture the subject. Well done!
Fred_S - A real combination of creativity and technical prowess with lenses and lighting over the course of the week in an impressive set.
Phil Wood - Surprise ending with the second head appearing. Again, a slow reveal which I've enjoyed seeing develop over the week.
LAbernethy - Real commitment to investigating a number of techniques gives a sense of consistency-with-variety over the week. My favourite is day 3 for the lighting, toning and detail.
alanfrombangor - The fun you've had in doing this really comes through. It's translated into a strong series, with the B&W/square crop bringing the set together.
dCap - Looking at this set on your thumbnail post, I like seeing how day 1 and 7 front shots bookend the other views. The mix of B&W and muted tones also brings consistency to the set.
Howard_S - 2 challenges in one for you, with the RD-175 bringing its own sense of drama. I think your subject is particularly beautiful, and day 3 is a cracker to show it off.
mikey2000 - Special nod for setting this up and for a strong start which was unfortunately sidelined. I hope both your friend and your laptop have speedy recoveries.

@gregja: I knew from day 1 it was some kind of electronics apparatus and on day 5 you revealed it was a sound system. Great eye for detail, lines and shapes, as we are used to in your challenges
@LAbernethy: great "Orange" theme, even though 2 is a nice shot it feels a bit out of place in the whole series and 7 is a nice wink between the "healthy" fruit and the "unhealthy" candy
@onsplekkie: nice unity with the blue theme, all well executed with for me 3 and 6 a notch above the others
@mikey2000: nice effort the first three days and unfortunate you had to break it off, great promise in there, especially after #3
@Phil Wood: great subject and nice piece of art, I probably like the two "blue sky" shots best (both the main and the outtake)
@Howard_S: Kudos for trying the RD-175 and figuring out the problem with #3 wasn't the camera but a card. Nice subject and well presented and revealed, from the first few days I had no idea what it was.
@addy landzaat: you picked a difficult subject, the statue itself is nice but the environment provided some challenges and you did well providing good variety and the snow the last two days was a bonus
@Fred_S: flexible subject and you did well with it despite the apparent simplicity. The two abstracts provided a change and allthough 5 in itself looks nice in B&W when presented as a series you might leave it in colour (and blue)
@dCap: Clean series, all well executed and composed. The muted tonses in some combined with B&W works well as a series. Are you planning to put a roll through it and see if it still works?
@alanfrombangor: great imagination, as of 4 I had a hunch there was going to be a Hitchcock later on and you didn't dissapoint. The consistent B&W treatment and square cropping worked well and 7 is a hoot
@alpha_in_exile: well executed series with a nice dark/warm tone and accentuating the lines and delicate grain in the wood.   

Well done all for completing the challenge!

My spare part arrived and my laptop is working again!   Homeschool today was mostly online lessons via iPad so I had a chance to get some PP done.   I’ll get my pics uploaded this evening :-)
