Yes it does feel a bit like I'm holding the fort at its long end... am definitely looking forward to your harvest of last weekend ![]() |

Unfortunately my 300 mm shots were made this week and I realised weeks run Monday to Sunday hence 300 mm was for last week. Will the rules bend?

Sorry to have gone awol from this and the Meyer thread. I'm glad pdeley is holding this fort!
I think we should turn a blind eye in this case Paul, and give the lonely keeper of the fort some company. |

Palenstein, Zoetermeer. Built in the 1960s in response to the post WWII baby boom and need for affordable housing. Over the years it has built a questionable reputation, low rents attracted the socially vulnerable and unenployment rate was high. The city council started a renovation project in 2008 that finds its completion in the demolition of the last two original flats, to be replaced by more up-market housing.
I pass it twice each day commuting to work and checked it out but I never took pictures. It seemed to be a 300 mm opportunity as the demolition site is surrounded by fencing. Marked for Destruction ![]() Camera Model: ILCE-7RM2 Lens: SMC Takumar 4/300 Aperture: f/4 Exposure Time: 0.017 sec (1/60) ISO: 160 Shanaya ![]() Camera Model: ILCE-7RM2 Lens: SMC Takumar 4/300 Aperture: f/4 Exposure Time: 0.003 sec (1/320) ISO: 100 Palenstein, one down one to go ![]() Camera Model: ILCE-7RM2 Lens: SMC Takumar 4/300 Aperture: f/4 Exposure Time: 0.001 sec (1/1250) ISO: 100 I have acquired a Meyer Telemegor 300 f/4.5, but the big black monster was a disappointment. Partly because I couldn't focus to infinity due to the adapter (home made, Exakta adapters don't support the Exakta external bayonet) but this lens is extremely soft, even at f11. I'll give it a clean as it is a bit dusty, and perhaps one of its 4 elements is out of alignment. Edited by Snegren - 05 November 2018 at 09:51 |

Very striking images Paul, especially the simple lines and visual impact of emotion expressed and social commentary implied in Shanaya
![]() If my count isn't off then yesterday was the end of days 302-308, so I fooled around with a Kiron 1.5x Match Mate TC and a push-pull version of the Kiron-made Vivitar 75-205 3.8 MC "Macro Focusing Zoom" on my a7. For reasons unclear the aperture-closing ring on my FD to E-mount adapter had no effect = all the following are wide open. Despite vignetting and CA and swirly tendencies, the favorable web wisdom about this lens clearly isn't a fluke. Sharper with more contrasty colors than I'd dared hope for. Especially wide open with a TC intended to match Kiron's shorter zooms, not this apparent precursor to the various Vivi 70-210 series 1 incarnations. 307.5-1 Prehistoric glyphs reborn on crop picking wagons ![]() 307.5-2 Watching Eyes ![]() 307.5-3 Yes we have no... ![]() 307.5-4 Leader of the flock ![]() 307.5-5 Freckled face ![]() 307.5-6 One ibis exits focal plane ![]() Edited by pdeley - 05 November 2018 at 16:52 |

The TC experimenting never stops: Tamron adaptall-2 70-210 f3.5 SP + the same Kiron Match Mate 1.5x as above, on a7 for Day 315. As I keep forgetting every year and then find out just before Day 294, the otherwise rather fabulous 70-210 SP has a protruding rear element that prevents it from mounting Tamron's own adaptall-2 1.4x TC, so finding a non-Tamron TC that sits at the back of the adaptall adapter (not directly in the adaptall mount itself) seemed like an alternative approach worth testing.
Unlike all the wide open shots above with that Viv 85-205 + the same 1.5x (due to a non-locking aperture lever somewhere in the combo?) closing the aperture wasn't a problem on this 70-210 SP. So I dared hope the latter would perform noticeably better with Kiron's TC, especially towards the corners at f8. No such luck and the reverse is true: equal or even stronger vignetting as the Viv + 1.5x, stronger CA and smudgier un-sharpness... presumably because Kiron's design of their Match Mate TC was only intended to match their own shorter zooms and neither of those had a very posteriorly placed rear element ![]() 315.1 Rehearsing in the Park ![]() 315.2 Two generations ![]() 315.3 Pets gone wild ![]() 315.4 Widgeon Wash ![]() 315.5 Walking on water ![]() Edited by pdeley - 12 November 2018 at 21:07 |

Wish you could have joined the week 50 but (like me) swamped by work and/or other duties? All is not lost because this coming Sunday Dec 16th happens to also be
Day 350! Admittedly it's not exactly a common focal length ... but the year is almost done so I will endeavour to perse-focus ![]() Edited by pdeley - 12 December 2018 at 21:58 |

Sweet! Looking forward to it Fred
![]() The TC option would have been my solution too, but after decades of steadily rising prices, the last two years have seen a relative return to sanity for the semi legendary Tamron adaptall-2 350 f5.6 reflex. And as I'm a bit mirror lens obsessed, that meant I finally had to go for one! Its reputation isn't a hoax: the sharpest reflex lenses in my motley collection so far were specimens of Tamron's 500 f8 mirror and Minolta/Sony's 500 f8 AF Reflex, but I'd rate this 350 as surpassing both. Although it doesn't outresolve my a65's 24 mpx, it nevertheless gets a lot closer to matching it than either of the 500mm reflexes. It also gets close to the 500 AF's better contrast, compared to the flatter tones of a Tamron 500 reflex. And last but not least - despite the wider aperture its shorter focal length allows for at least some DOF, so getting focus exactly where you want isn't quite as challenging as with a 500mm or 600mm reflex. Obviously there's no escape from the typical catadioptric bokeh, and an evening squad of white tail deer were more than happy to bring out the optical good and bad: 350.1 Doe, A Deer ![]() 350.2 This optical vintage has a sharp nose with mineral elements and a decidedly bitter bokeh ![]() 350.3 Aw Mom you're embarassing me! ![]() 350.4 Krazy Kat Yucca ![]() Edited by pdeley - 17 December 2018 at 16:47 |

Really? Another mirror obsessed person here? I haven't been willing to pay the SP-350 price, nor the Rubinar 4.5/300 $$$. However, I do have several mirrors. I really enjoy using them. |

Perhaps Day Prime is not over for me after all. I remembered I have a M42 2x TC (never used, collateral damage) and 2 x Primotar 180 makes a 360 f/7.
