Day Prime 2018 - Event Date: 01 January 2018 - 31 December 2018

Unfortunately my 300 mm shots were made this week and I realised weeks run Monday to Sunday hence 300 mm was for last week. Will the rules bend?

Palenstein, Zoetermeer. Built in the 1960s in response to the post WWII baby boom and need for affordable housing. Over the years it has built a questionable reputation, low rents attracted the socially vulnerable and unenployment rate was high. The city council started a renovation project in 2008 that finds its completion in the demolition of the last two original flats, to be replaced by more up-market housing.

I pass it twice each day commuting to work and checked it out but I never took pictures. It seemed to be a 300 mm opportunity as the demolition site is surrounded by fencing.

I have acquired a Meyer Telemegor 300 f/4.5, but the big black monster was a disappointment. Partly because I couldn't focus to infinity due to the adapter (home made, Exakta adapters don't support the Exakta external bayonet) but this lens is extremely soft, even at f11. I'll give it a clean as it is a bit dusty, and perhaps one of its 4 elements is out of alignment.

The TC experimenting never stops: Tamron adaptall-2 70-210 f3.5 SP + the same Kiron Match Mate 1.5x as above, on a7 for Day 315. As I keep forgetting every year and then find out just before Day 294, the otherwise rather fabulous 70-210 SP has a protruding rear element that prevents it from mounting Tamron's own adaptall-2 1.4x TC, so finding a non-Tamron TC that sits at the back of the adaptall adapter (not directly in the adaptall mount itself) seemed like an alternative approach worth testing.

Unlike all the wide open shots above with that Viv 85-205 + the same 1.5x (due to a non-locking aperture lever somewhere in the combo?) closing the aperture wasn't a problem on this 70-210 SP. So I dared hope the latter would perform noticeably better with Kiron's TC, especially towards the corners at f8. No such luck and the reverse is true: equal or even stronger vignetting as the Viv + 1.5x, stronger CA and smudgier un-sharpness... presumably because Kiron's design of their Match Mate TC was only intended to match their own shorter zooms and neither of those had a very posteriorly placed rear element

I'll be in next year with a just scored 250mm (+1.4 TC). It won't be here before Sunday though

Really? Another mirror obsessed person here? I haven't been willing to pay the SP-350 price, nor the Rubinar 4.5/300 $$$. However, I do have several mirrors. I really enjoy using them.

Weather allowing there will be more this week. This combo works better than expected.
