This is the training centre aka Outtakes thread of Day Prime 2020.
Maybe there are more people like me who want to get the feel of a lens (again) and experiment a bit. Day Prime is a great challenge but there is a limited time slot for each FL. You have to be there on that day/in that week, or wait another year ... This thread lets you post on other days too. And lets you post shots that you don't want to post in the main photo thread. And here is a link to the main day prime thread for 2020 Comments are allowed and even encouraged, both in the main thread as well as here . There is no separate "talk thread" for day prime, like with the prime months or week 50. Edited by pegelli - 03 January 2020 at 15:18 |

Today I went training with my Voigtländer 12/5.6 in the woods nearby and the partly blown up redoubt of Schilde. 12 mm is kind of special and takes some time to get into. Overall I think it went OK, some of these scenes might even come back next week in the main thread.
1: Wood pond 2: Fallen trunk 3: Main hall of the redoubt 4: Behind the main hall 5: Side hall (don't walk too far or you'll drop a floor down) 6: Unbelievable, a small side casemate without graffiti All A7ii + Voigtländer Ultra Wide Heliar 12/5.6 @ f11 All shots from a tripod, inside "light painted" with a large battery led flood light |

Good start and great location Pieter! (not sure if we are supposed to comment here)
I just tried to get some inspiration for Day 12 as well with the Lensbaby 12mm Fisheye. Bought it last year just after Day 12, so it's pretty new to me. With dark and wet conditions outside, already in the desperation indoor mode to explore the lens . 12mm #1 12mm #2 12mm #3 12mm #4 A99ii + Lensbaby composer pro + Fisheye 12mm (with F8 aperture) Edited by Fred_S - 12 January 2020 at 11:59 |

Comments are no problem here Fred, I've added that to the introductory post now. I like your lensbaby fisheye macro lens , especially the model car looks almost real inside an old grungy garage.

Thanks Pieter. I'll pass on the compliment about the grungy garage to my wife

I think I need some more training in bird photography with LAOWA FE 10-18 mm F4.5-5.6 C-Dreamer...
Two-barred crossbill(s?) (Loxia leucoptera) in a larch α7R III + LAOWA FE 10-18 mm F4.5-5.6 C-Dreamer @ 10 mm, f/?, 1/1600 s, ISO 2000 I'll post better pictures of that species taken with longer lenses later in other threads. |

Next week is 20, 21 and 24 mm.
Especially 20 and 21 are uncommon for me, so I went out with one of my least lenses today, a Tokina 21/3.8 I picked up for 10 € in 2015 and only resulted in 30 photo's since I bought it I hope I will find an opportunity for 24 mm training this week as well we'll see. T21-1: Fallen Tree T21-2: Through the woods T21-3: Vrieselhof castle T21-4: Pond T21-5: Sluice bunker in the pre WW1 anti-tank canal All on an A7ii |

I didn't manage to use my 25mm lens during week 4, but since I also didn't change my lenses for week 5, I still had it on my camera today and used it so I can at least post it here as an outtake...

Yesterday a new (to me) lens arrived, just too late for this yer prime. It's a Konica Hexanon 52/1.8 that I picked up for very little from an auction site. It's basically a "run of the mill" standard lens, but with a bit odd focal length. And generally the Hexanon AR's are pretty good lenses.
Here's a crop from my little training/testing this afternoon 52T-1: Fungi 52T-2: Old barn 52T-3: Post points 52T-4: Wear patterns 52T-5: More fungi I think the lens behaves as expected and has a nice rendering, so I'm a happy camper |

I was very unhappy with this year's day 53 as my Jupiter 53/2.8 is a dud and fortunately I discovered a perfectly decent alternative in this 1964 6 element/5 groups Minolta.
53.Tulips Camera Model: ILCE-7RM2 Lens: Minolta Auto Rokkor-PF 1:2 f=53 mm Aperture: f/2 Exposure Time: 0.008 sec (1/125) ISO: 100 Too much computer time lead to the discovery of a slightly younger 6 element/5 groups Minolta: 55: Tulips Camera Model: ILCE-7RM2 Lens: Minolta MC Rokkor-PF 1:1.7 f=55mm Aperture: f/1.7 Exposure Time: 0.01 sec (1/100) ISO: 100 |

This week I started using a very special minolta 100/2. It was first owned by Brettania and then by Kiklop who gave it to darosa. Leo now lended it to me to use a few month so it gets used more.
While I'm familiar with 100 mm focal length the lens is still special and here's a first training wide open. It's important to avoid high contrast edges that result in purple fringing and CA. I think this was an OK subject in that regard. A7ii + LA-EA4 + "Dyxum" Minolta 100/2 @ f2 |
