Good to see you here Phil! You know that we work in weeks instead of exact date now? Well captured desolate places.

Some more Day 85 for me.
Basically some test shots with a cheap lens that came for free with another purchase: Coslinar 3.5/85-210mm in MD mount. Had't used it before and it will probably go to rest for the next Day 85...

85-12 Verboden toegang (no entry)

85-13 New houses, old stack

85-14 In the sunset

85-15 Blossom

85-16 Sunset from the bedroom window

All on A7R2

That's not the worst lens I've seen Fred, but web size, a good eye and good light can even make a coke bottle shine . But I really like 85-15, even the bokeh has a hint of character

Today I went back to the redoubt of Schilde, at some point with this limited mobility I'm going to repeat myself

85-19: But I found a new (for me) entrance to another part of the main building

85-20: Once inside it was clear I wasn't the first one finding it

85-21: Bunker entrance

85-22: The more familiar main hall (really needs a WA to do it justice, but it's not the right week for that)

85-23: The "enemy side" of the redoubt

On the way back I shot a few confinement shots, here's one

85-24: Out of business (already before the crisis)

All A7Rii + LA-EA4 + Min 85/1.4 RS G

T

Thanks Pieter. Indeed the bokeh is not too bad. 85-15 was at F8 if I remember well. Tried F3.5 as well, but that lacked too much sharpness outside the centre for this shot. The lens may get another use as my only option for Day 210.

I like your characterful bunker shots. That Mino 85/1.4 is a very nice lens.

I did an imperfect comparison today with my A7III between the Canon EF 85mm F1.8 USM and the Tamron SP 85mm F1.8 Di USD. I used the Sigma MC-11 for the Canon and the Sony LA-EA3 for the Tamron. I later added similar shots with the Sony FE 85mm F1.8. All of these are wide-open at ISO 100.

Nice comparisons Matthew, some slight variations in shooting position (especially the first) but overall I don't see a lot of difference at web posting size. What's your own conclusion when you can do a closer inspection at your computer at home?

The Tamron has much less axial chromatic aberration, but it is hard to see that problem with the Canon in these shots. In other testing I found the Canon to be sharper, but that's not noticeable with these even pixel peeping. The Tamron is a much bulkier lens that focuses slower. They are both very nice lenses. I was very impressed with the Canon when I first got it and compared it to the Sony 85mm F2.8 SAM, Minolta MD 85mm F2, and Tamron SP 90mm F2.5.

I just had a Greentoe offer for the Sony FE 85mm F1.8 accepted, so I am looking forward to trying it out. I added similar shots from the Sony. The Tamron images are the best followed by the Canon.

Thanks Matthew, in 85 mm I like my Minolta 85/1.4 RS G best, despite all its flaws. Somehow the rendering is always very pleasing. I also have the Sony FE 85/1.8, sharper and less faults but also less "character" and therefore a bit more clinical rendering.
