Pieter number 5 is exceptionally well done, the Out Of Focus candle holder looks like a microphone, and is perfectly placed.

I've been thinking. The last 2 months of Day Prime are not the most spectacular for obvious reasons: lack of appropriate focal lengths, inclement weather, diminishing daylight hours. That's a pity because using the longer FLs is challenging but can be very rewarding.
I am always amazed by how much distance you need between you and your subject with a 300mm (and longer) lens (unless you make some sort of macro shot). It requires a completely different way of looking, and because I don't practise enough, I never feel completely comfortable with the big boys. Day Prime has always been a great stimulus to go out and use your lenses, unfortunately less so for the longer FLs. My idea is: make November and December into the Super Tele months, focal lengths from 300m to 'you name it'. No Day Prime Days, or Day Prime Weeks, but 2 Day Prime Months for the long teles, incuding 400, 500, 600, etc.; FLs that we never see on Day Prime anymore. These lenses can be used any day during the these months. There are always a number of good days in November and December, and in this way we can make use of them! Just my 2 cents, well, maybe 3 :-) What do you think? |

Hey Leo, that's a great idea, it would mean that for instance november and december is "anything 300 mm and longer", which we could even start on oktober 27 (day 300). Only in a leap year this would start on oktober 26.
There have been years I used my 400 mm on day 35 of the next year, but I think this is much better. You need to think a bit more about the subjects with long teles and the weather/light needs to coöperate so having more time for that will hopefully inspire us to use these long teles more. Were you thinking to already start that this year or as new plan for next year? Either is fine by me. |

Btw, lovely work with those 300 mm's Marius and Leo. Using the donut bokeh to your advantage rather than a distraction in Leo's 3, 7 and 9 is a great thing and the colours of the big beercan never dissapoint, I still regret selling mine but the normal beercan has somne similar rendering and colour attributes and I still have that one. I really like all the fall colour ones but #6 takes the cake. You could even make a square crop from the top and make this geometric high rise scene more powerful. It's basically two different photos you can make with just one exposure!

OK, no problem Leo. In the end you're still the "Day Prime" Godfather
![]() So from now on until december 31 it's "everything over 300 goes" Next year we'll do that as of day 300 (oktober 27, 2022) If people still want to do some day/week primes in line with the old rules that's fine as well (it's already day 305 today) and the exact table until the end of the year can still be found in the 2nd post of this thread. Comments/questions welcome ![]() |

I like this approach for FL's of 300mm and more. It enables me to post some 400mm shots, catch up for Day 300 and really challenge myself to go out for some real telephoto shots, which indeed is quite different from working woth shorter FL's.
