You read these shots well Pieter, you're spot on! When I'm in Nisse I'm always thinking of our meet there, and I share your thoughts about the way lenses influence the shots we make. |

Finally I got myself out of home to shoot some Day Prime Challenge shots (and I guess I'll have to do that more in the fortcoming days too, still two lenses for this week).
HK10.0 ![]() α7R III + LAOWA FE 10-18mm F4.5-5.6 C-Dreamer @ 10 mm, f/11?, 1/80 s, ISO 125 And already with the first photo I broke the rules: I did crop a slice out of the left side since there was an ugly lamp I was aiming to get out of frame but sadly eventually I didn't succeed in that attempt... And I managed to cover another focal length of the week tonight...
HK16.1 ![]() α7R IV + Sony CZ FE 4/16-35 @ 16 mm, f/4, 15 s, ISO 100 (+ APS-C mode) That APS-C setting I had left on accidentally and I was in hurry to see if I can catch a glimpse of the auroras as I had just got a message that there is chance that the space weather is suitable for aurora borealis observation even in the southern Finland. Looks like the cropped view works pretty well and there is even that weak green wave in the sky on the left side of the building... |

Great work with all the wide angles and fish-eyes here. I like the fact that day prime is still gathering a lot of energy year by year and especially at the wide-end side I really admire all the different angles people use to make the best use of them.
Yesterday I visited Liege (Luik) with two other photographers and obviously my two primes for the week went along. We first visited the Citadel (or what's left of it after they built a hospital tight on top somewhere in the 60's or 70's) and then took a stroll down to the river Meuse (Maas) and then back up to Fort Chartreuse, which was a fort until somewhere in the 1800's but became more of a barracks until the Belgian Army deserted it in 1988. Since then it's a place for graffiti artists and begining urbex shooters. Let me continue with my 12 mm shots I took at Fort Chartreuse 12-3: One of the barrack buildings, built in 1939 ![]() 12-4: One of the very many (I guess hundreds) troup rooms ![]() 12-5: Washroom ![]() 12-6: You can see in 12-3 at which floor this photo was taken ![]() 12-7: The central stairwell in one of the older buildings on the site ![]() All A7ii + Voigtländer Ultra Wide Heliar 12/5.6 (E-mount) |

The other lens for me this week is the Minolta 16/2.8 fisheye
16-1: Citadel tunnel ![]() 16-2: Memorial on the Citadel for a few prisoners who were sentenced to death but managed to escape before their execution and were able to join the allied armies ![]() 16-3: Hallway on the ground floor of one of the older building in Fort Chartreuse ![]() 16-4: Same stairwell as 12-7, but from the ground floor ![]() 16-5: Same stairwell again, but now from a small landing between the 1st and second floor ![]() 16-6: One of the officers houses, where one of the side walls collapsed providing a nice view inside ![]() 16-7: The living room (actually what's left of it) in the same house as 16-6 ![]() All A7ii + LA-EA4 + Min 16/2.8 fish-eye |

Day 12.5 !
![]() Pieter that place screams "overcooked HDR" with all the sliders maxxed out; you were very tasteful. Interesting how 16-4 and 16-5 are almost invisible fisheyes, the curves are well hidden, very striking ![]() ![]() Oh yeah, I see the window! Mariusz great equipment choice for the location! #3 is striking as a non-fisheye fisheye shot. It would be an interesting Challenge for "non-fisheye fisheye shots", but probably very few people have a fisheye lens. These shots 16-4 16-5 and #3 are the perfect sample images for that. Harm great sample image for "ultra-wide distortion". Modern Software has "Volume Deformation" correction for exactly that. |

Day 15 - 15mm f4.5 Voigtlander
I had hoped the promised turbulent seas and weather promised by Tropical Cyclone Cody (now Tropical Storm Cody) were going to generate some wilder seas for a seascape, but it passed too far east of us. By the evening Tāmaki-Makarau (Auckland) had become clear and calm. So I changed tack and attempted a scene at Island Bay with the setting sun, exploiting the Voigtlander's ability to produce attractive sunstars. ![]() a7Riii with Voigtlander 15/4.5, at ISO400, 1/200s, f13. |

Regarding 16.5 (probably the shot I liked most from the entire day) I also have a 12 mm "rectilinear" version from the same day as well as a 10 mm APS-C shot from april 2021.
16.5 was my most favoured since it showed the entire width of the bottom steps of the stairs left and right. I did a little experiment comparing 4 shots in lightroom all taken from the same place (roughly) 10 mm APS-C (=15 mm FF) 12 mm FF 16 mm fisheye 16 mm fisheye "defished" And this is how that looks: ![]() A few conclusions The angle of view is the largest vertically (short side) with the 12 mm rectaliniar on FF The angle of view is the largest horizontally (long side) with the 16 mm fisheye A defished 16 mm is still wider than a rectilinear 10 mm APS-C/15 mm FF, but not as wide as a 12 mm FF rectilinear Probably all not so important but still interesting (geeky?), and probably good stuff to discuss this week in the day prime thread ![]() |
