i just read this thread, and thought what an intresting idea to share your own creations and wanted to once again get life in to this thread so here is my idea.
since i have many lenses stored next to each other and like to use them as much as posible, i tend to lay my lens caps down (on my desk or in my lens bag). but after use i like to (but do not so often) put all the lens caps back on, unfortunitly not all filtersizes are the same and i stared thinking how can you see quickly what lenscap is from what lens. my solution is to use a label printer and put the focallenght and the apreture on the lens caps. (there are manual label printers for very cheap around 10 euro's) with this hack, i always see in a hand turn what lenscap is from what lens and therfore use my lenscaps more often than not and therefore i protect my lenses more securly than before.
