This is the place to show your photos of the Sony Demonstration day.
Look here for the pre-meeting topic: DM: 10 Nov 2007: A700 try out, Nijmegen:

Some of mine:

Niek printing some photos.

Everybody was checking his (or her) photos, the best two were entered for the 3 prizes.

The waiter is having a peek at the Jury table.

Selecting the photos.

The winners: From left to right: 3, 2, and 1.

Dirk get his third prize from Jelmer, a Sony CF card of 8GB.

Jelmer gives the second prize, a Sony Photo-printer, to the winner. (I can't recall his name.)

Sadd gets the first prize, the Sony 50/2.8 Macro.

The group shot, some people already left before the groupshot:

Only the dog stayed.

So no real artistic shots from me, only one of the two shot i selected for printing. Not that I could win something, I had Jury Duty.

Wolfensteijn with the Sony 70-200/2.8 SSM G, a kind of inside joke from another forum were Wolfensteijn and I are also members of.

I didn't take a lot of photos, just wanted to get the feel for the a700, and for some of the lenses (85/1.4 mostly). So all pictures posted here are made with the Dynax 5D. I consider the photoes I made with the a700 to be subpar :)

Needless to say that I had a blast, real fun with you people, and fun while playing with some new and very expensive toys. I am most certainly going to save money for an a700. Hopefully sometime next year, after tax refund :)

And I hope that this problem is easily explainable/fixable

Found it now in 6 of the photos taken with my 5D... :(

Looks like it was a great day guys! You have set the rest of us great example and hopefully other retailers in other regions will be interested in doing similar events...

Posted this picture yesterday in the now closed meeting thread as an homage to Grubeater for taking the initiative and helping organize this day. Many thanks to him, Niek and Jelmer for a wonderful day.
Here he's testing how the 135 Zeiss works on his film7.

btw. The name of the second prize winner is Jacco Biemond (don't know his Dyxum nickname)
Once I process some more pictures I'll see if they're worthy of posting.
You can see the April Foolishness 2023 exhibition here Another great show of the talent we have on Dyxum

Hello guys,

No photo's but just a reaction on a great event in Nijmegen. The credits for the people who made this all possible are already made(they did a great job IMO!) so I will tell you all something about the meeting itself.

Sony had 2 complete sets of all the available lenses there, from the standard zooms to the complete G lenses. Everything was there.

There were 6 A700 available, so there was enough for everybody.

The museum was a great place to shoot photo's, inside and outside, so we had a lot of possible situatons to test things.

There was koffee, tea, drinks and some more, which was all been taken care for.

Our members en the people there form Grijpink give it a really good test, lots of photo's taken, comments made and there was a lot of talking among the people about this day.

Sony, Grijpink, the museum and offcourse Grubeater made it a good day for us I think. So thanks you guys !!

Greatings, Theo

I'm back... using the A57...Have a nice day everyone...

OK, back again, but now with some comment on what we have done with the "Sony - stuff".

- camera + VC:
The A700 is (IMVHO) a really great camera when you are used to the Dynax 5D and the A100. Af is fast, VC is great to handle, the ergonomics look and feld good to me. Did I tell you it was fast!! So we now have a camera which we can use to shoot sports and moving things. The sound of the camera is also great, that shuttersound is just fine. I like the dots and knobs and stuff to tweak the camera and I found myself using them within a copple of minutes. (the A100 and 5D don't have this kind of knobs and buttons, so it feld good to me)

- the lenses:
Well a lot is sad (to Sony) about the high prices of the "better" lenses. (G en Zeiss) so I will not comment on that..that point is made to Sony !
I used a lot off different lenses on the A700, but also on my own A100. These are e few of my findings. The standard zooms/primes are doing OK, there's really nothing wrong with them within there field of use. The G lenses is something else. The 35G/1.4 wasn't so impressive to me (my 35/f2 isn't that bad at all!) The 300G and the 70-200 are super, but they cost to much (IMO), but did I tell that they are SUPER!
There were the "specials" like the 500/F8 and the 135STF. They were nice to use them, but not my goal.
But what really impressed me were the Zeiss lenses. Theo 16-80 is great I think, the 85 is a blast (but so is my Tam90), but the 135/1.8 Zeiss is the best lens I have used this day. It is my "want-to-have" lens for sure. It was great all the way, inside, outside, fast, sharp, colors ok (IMO).

So, what do I think?....I go for the A700 with the VC (this camera is our connection to Canon - Nikon, and it IS a good camera), use the lenses I allready have (the beercan is fast on the A700 by the way!) and go safe some extra money for the Zeis 135/1.8 (did I tell you that THAT is a great lens,.. no??)

Happy reading, greatings, Theo

OK..ok...back again, but for the last time (I think)

Lets go spread some RUMOURS (great cd from FLeedwood Mac, BTW).

This is what the "Sony-guy" (good lad!!) told me:

- there will be somthing happening on the Zoom Experience with Sony and DSLR.

- within now and 1,5 year, Sony WILL have 5 (FIVE !) body's on the market

- the Dutch DSLR market is Sony's prime goal after the LCD/Plasma TV's. The A100 was good for about 12% of the selling market in The Netherlands, so Sony will go there all the way.

- In the first half of next year there WILL be some price things happening. They are likely to offer special kits of the A700, with a special price tag. (The A700+70-200SSM kit will be -/- €500,- of the SSM price tag). So things will happen with some of the high prices here.

- They WILL be nr. 3 in the region on the DSLR market.

- They nead new Sony DLSR users (otherwise they cannot become the nr. 3), but they will be talking to the "Minolta gang" as there resource to, they value (and appreciate) our knowledge . They are taking us very serious for that matter!

Maybe some of you guys did allready know what I'm telling here, but to me it sound like a good thing. I CAN hold on to my Minolta stuff for the future and Sony WILL take there place in the market as a proffesional party with good camera's and lenses and stuff.

Have a nice Sunday, greatings, Theo

OK.
Here some shots I made at the A700 teaser meeting in Nijmegen. Good initiative from Grubeater, Grijpink and Sony. After an afternoon with all this stuff yiu can get pretty greedy.
For me the 16-85 CZ was a revelation. The other stuff I just keep dreaming of (. . . . the sound - whizzz - of the 70-200, the speed of the 300 . . . ).
Thanks for a great saturday and a lot of fun.

OK, here's some other shots. Didn't take too many pictures and somehow not a lot I'm happy with. Must have been the exitement
# 1 A700 with BB at 800 iso

# 2 A700 with BB at 6400 iso

#3 A700 with 300 APO G at 2.8 (wow what a weight)

Now the lenses I've tested (all on my KM 5D):
# 3 : 50/1.4

#4 : 28/2.8

# 5 : 20/2.8 (Niek resting and watching during one of the very few quiet moments)

# 6 : CZ 16-80

# 7 : Zeiss 85/1.4

# 8 : 800/8 mirror

# 9 : 70-200/2.8 G

#10 : 11-18/4.5-5.6 (nice glass around the whole day)

# 11 : 20/2.8 (used as a macro)

# 12 : 300 APO G at 2.8

#13 : 18-200/4-6.3 (cropped to same are as 300 mm, to compare vs. a > 10x more expensive lens above)

It was very nice meeting you all. See you next time (with the A300 and A900)

Great opportunity to try some (odd) lenses

a normal 16-80

a 135 1.7 at 7.1

and at 1.7(with an extreme shallow DOF)

And yes I did try the A700 and yes I will by one (with VG, not available yet)

What a nice day it was, down in Berg and Dal.
Meeting some old Dyxum friemds and sure made some new.
It was a real pleasure and teaser to get a grip on all this nice equipment. We all had the chance to play around with the A700 for abour 1/2 an hour, and play with all the glass.
I really took the occasion to try out the lenses I didn't know and of course some very fine glass which wasn't on my list.
Henk and I were stunned by the CZ 16-80, for both our first ride with it. For me the 135/1.8 was the other revelation of the day, but also in weight

I'm next in row to thank Niek from Grijpink, Jelmer from Sony and Grubeater and not at least the Africa museum for a great afternoon (and some budget shift )

Here's some of my shots.
Unfortunately not with the A700, shots are on the Sony cards, we'll get them later on DVD.

Our hero : Grubeater

Lens : 70-200 SSM @f.45 1/20

Pieter, if I'd wished, I couldn't !
It's on the CF card which was in the A700, Jelmer took it.
