A great day it was! (despite some challenges with travel, road blocks, parking, traffic jams and availability of beers of choice ). Thanks for this good start. I didn't have energy left after a long day, but will start to process tonight after another day in the office

I didn't, and I never spotted a "real" okapi

peg01: But I did see some bee-eaters

peg02: and a penguin

peg03: a gorilla hand (through a dirty and reflecting window)

peg04: and a young playfull gorilla

peg05: the boss

The last image (peg05) is probably a technical disaster, I missed focus, iso 25600, through a dirty and reflecting window. But still I like the facial expression I caught here, so I still posted it instead of putting it in the bin.

After the zoo we made a short excursion to Antwerp Central.

In 1998 large-scale reconstruction work began to convert Antwerp Central from a terminus to a through station. A tunnel was excavated between Antwerpen-Berchem station in the south of the city and Antwerpen-Dam station in the north, passing under Central station, with platforms on two underground levels. This allows Thalys, HSL 4 and HSL-Zuid high-speed trains to travel through Antwerp Central without the need to turn around (the previous layout obliged Amsterdam-Brussels trains to call only at Antwerpen-Berchem or reverse at Central).
The major elements of the construction project were completed in 2007, and the first through trains ran on 25 March 2007. The station was awarded a Grand Prix at the European Union Prize for Cultural Heritage / Europa Nostra Awards in 2011.

If I am right, these are African penguins (Spheniscus demersus).

Spectacled owl in English, Pulsatrix perspicillata is the scientific name.

Those donuts are yummie Leo, and the sharp parts aren't bad either.

Great portraits Domien, especially DP11 but they all have lots of charm.

peg06: can you please speak a little louder, which forum did you say you guys are from?

peg07: waiting for some action

peg08: a dusty decoration in the giraffe building

peg09: "val niet in de berenval" (=don't get trapped in the beartrap)

Note the specific zoo gear, long silver/white lenses and monopods

peg10: meercat

peg11: dinner time in the lion pen
