We had a Dyxum meeting at the living steam train museum "Museum Buurtspoorweg" in Haaksbergen, the Netherlands.

A fine turnout, and good to see.
Looking forward to seeing 7 variations on various locomotive themes as they are posted. |

Good start Peter, especially K1 and K3. I'll try to avoid some duplication, but no guarantees. All 7 of stood next to each other on the footbridge for a shot like K2 and I also have an almost identical version of K3.
P1: The Wismar railbus at the main platform ![]() P2: Wismar detail ![]() Btw, this railbus or triebwagen has two 6 cylinder petrol engines, one for each direction of travel. They were used for local transport in Germany and also served lines across the border to the Netherlands. There's only a few left and even less in working order. P3: Another unique locomotive, built by Cockerill in Liege. It's a small shunter with a vertical steam boiler. Very powerful due to its small wheels, but also not very fast. I think there are only 3 or 4 of these left in the world. ![]() P4: Not everything is restored and/or in working order, here's a German T3 from 1896 awaiting restoration (and a new boiler). In the background the beautifully restored La Meuse #6 "Magda" ![]() P5: The arriving train from the same spot as K2, but the other direction after the engine passed under the footbridge ![]() All except P4: A7ii + Tamron 28-200 Di III RXD, P4: A6000 + Sony E10-18/4 |

Some fascinating rolling stock on show here. Particularly that railbus - quite an oddity. Makes me wonder why they bothered to make this to run on rails rather than simply a bus of same passenger capacity that ran on roads, that would have been mechanically simpler, lighter and therefore more fuel efficient, and free to travel on various flexible routes.

Also rail busses don't need a steering installation, can't run a flat tire and are simple to operate. Doesn't mean they're better or worse than road busses, just different with different set of pro's and con's.

Some nice shots and information about the trains.
@pegelli the emblem on the Wismar railbus in P2 is facing the train operator but at the other side not. Do you know if this is coincidental or is there a reason? K4 ![]() |
