So today we had our first Beneluks Dyxum meet of 2013 at the Railway Museum, Utrecht. Freezing cold outside, but decent temperatures inside fortunately.

We are: @Jetsplace (Jet), Stormvogel (Willem), Pieter B (Pieter), MichelvA (Michel), bartman (Bart), Grubeater (Willem), rvangompel (Roel), darosa (Leo); and last but not least our special guest from the UK: Tricky01 (Simon).

Sadly, because pegelli (Pieter) couldn't make it, we have no group shot to start this picture thread.

But I'm sure you will see all members of our party in the posts that will follow.

OK. A first shot to give you an idea of our meeting place:

NEX-5N + Samyang 8/3.5 fish-eye @ F5.6, 1/10 (handheld ), 0EV, 3200iso

From the exif you can gather that the light was ... ehrm, not ideal in the museum. Officially, tripods are not allowed and only Willem Stormvogel was clever enough to ask for and get permission to use one.

To be continued with many more photos!

So that was a happy day for me with the group at the Railway Museum.

I get permission to use a tripod when the say to me it's forbidden.
I said old man with shaky hands I have to us a tripod for a sharp picture.

Nice shot Leo.

All with A99 and 135 mm STF.
On tripod except the first one.

1. Jet drinking coffee after the ride from Gouda together with Simon.

1/125 F 4.5 0 ev 6400 iso.

2. In the wheelhouse part off the volume system off the locomotive steam radio.

1.5 sec F 6.7 -1 ev 100 iso.

3. Light and dark switch.

1/10 F 6.7 -1 ev 100 iso.

4. Sunset through a window.

1/8 F 6.7 -1 ev 100 iso.

5. Part off a suitcase that was lost long ago in a train, any one??

3 sec F 6.7 -1 ev 100 iso.

6. Whiskey drain valve off the distillation unit off the locomotive.

8 sec F 16 -1 ev 100 iso.

There is more to come.

Best regards Willem.

That's a cracking start to the series, lads

I like the way you bent the locomotive, Leo, and that's such a prominent makers plate, positioned where you'd expect a nameplate. Perhaps Beyer Peacock saw it as a crafty piece of advertising in the days when the early builders were trying to establish themselves in the new market.

Willem, I also find that seeking out details in railway museums generally produces better results than trying to avoid people and bright lights to squeeze a whole locomotive in. You've coaxed some incredible detail with that STF, sharp and almost three dimensional, particularly that last one. Excellent work.

Thanks Alan! And I agree with your analysis of how to go to work in a railway museum.

Willem: beautifuly captured details. I recognize a lot of them and you can expect to see some of them again here.

And I would like to wish Michel a speedy recovery from here. Poor Michel suffered from a bad attack of what seemed like the Norrovirus when we went back home. He made it in one piece i'm glad to say but had to make several stops.
I hope you're feeling a bit better today Michel. It's terrible to be on the road when you're feeling that miserable.

Two more.

1. The visionary look off Leo.

Nex 5N 18/55/55 mm 1/100 F 5.6 -0.7 ev 2000 iso.

2. For Bart and I serious members it's some times difficult.

Nex 5N 18/55/55 1/50 F 5.6 0 ev 3200 iso.
Here you are still happy.

Michel I hope you get soon feeling better and get out off the sick-bay.

Willem.

Don't know about visionary Willem, but that 18-55 is too sharp for my old face. Perhaps it's the strain of this Dyxum meet.
Great focus!
