This was actually a Dyxum minimeet since Ivo (minolta-mutley) also attended the same photo excursion. So Ivo, feel free to also post some of your photo's here . We were six photographers in total, one more Sony (but not a Dyxum member) two Nikons and one Canon.

I have alrady shown some images from this fort visit in the B&W challenge:

Welcome (gun opening at the Fort Aubin entrance)

Entrance building, seems to have suffered a big hit

The water well in the fort Looking down ~30 meters from the level of tunnels which is ~35 meter below ground level, so the water table you see is about 65 meter below ground level

All Leica M246 mono + Summaron 35/2.8

But here are some more, and I'll add more later:

Most of the fort is 35 meter below ground level, so it needs long staircases

Ammunition racks

Elevator shaft looking up, to haul up the ammunition to the guns at ground level

And if the exposure time is long enough it's possible to capture the ghosts of fallen soldiers returning to the place where they ended their earthly lives

First and last: A7ii + Tamron 28-200 Di III RXD, middle two A7Rii + Tamron 20/2.8 Di III OSD

Wait, you did not force him (or her?) to join on the spot? Gee....

Lovely series, looks like B&W fits it well. interested in Ivo's take on it.

He's still locked up in the dungeon of the fort until he joins, but so far he's resisting

Impressive set, Pieter - B/W fits the subject very well.

My favorites are the first one and the staircase image (without ghosts) - the real achievement probably was to take a photograph without ghosts/people on it.

Must have been an impressive place, too. In case you are looking for similar experiences: Have a look here. I would come and accompany you!

Good series Pieter! #1 is my pick from this set.
I was in Liege last Friday for work, but without my camera though.

Nice set of a nice excursion. Well done. Love the ghosts, however I doubt your beliefs...

Thanks for the comments, it was indeed a nice day and since the fort was only opened for us (6 photographers) shooting empty hallways and staircases was certainly possible since we all know how unintended photobombing influences the general mood

And Harm, believe it or not, but the ghosts are real

A few more:

p10: The chapel, and an impression how it looked while "in operation"

p11: The morgue (a sobering place)

p12: More ghosts

p13: We saw one live animal while being down there

p14: The gate to the main part of the fort

All A7ii + Tamron 28-200 Di III RXD

I'm going to start from the last images. To avoid duplication Pieter's images.

The entrance a little bit further away:

Memorial with a tank-fan we should be very thankful for, in the background (the organizer of the meeting).

I should combine both landscape pictures. The first image shows a coalmine dump in the background (mine of Blegny - https://www.blegnymine.be/en )

Was there a tank - yes indeed. Without thanks.

Tomorrow we 'll show you some geological images...

A small bunkerbuster hole (made by the germans during WWII doing tests without soldiers in there - they 'used' this place as a test-site, it seems there is a 2nd site in Belgium where such tests also took place) - and the structure of the marl becomes visible.

Nice additions Ivo, especially the "inverted marl craters" and the other experimental induced rubble!

Let me add a few more

p15: Armoured / gastight door (to keep the mustard gas out)

p16: Decontamination shower

p17: Looking up the long stairs

p18: We were happy that we had guides with us, the signalisation down there wasn't very helpful

All A7ii + Tamron 28-200 Di III RXD

More to come

p19: Electricity generator driven by a three cylinder diesel (both no longer operational )

p20: Air compressor

p21: Workshop

p22: Water tanks and water pumps (no longer connected)

The water well you can see in my fifth photo of my first post is below the grid you see in the lower left corner

19, 20: A7ii + Tamron 28-200 Di III RXD
21, 22: A7Rii + Tamron 20/2.8 Di III OSD

Another hole in the roof:

The same entry with the paterns of the Marl - it makes you seasick when you focus on them!

the hole in the center

sideview of the hole made by the explosion

Another hole made by powerful german powder.

Another sleeping place.

more centered

Almost a ghost-house

Contrast between the concrete and the marl by a sidewards explosion.

The start of Crazy Harry's favorite place in the fortress (the most beloved figure in the show that always takes care of the show in a rather explosive way)...

This could be sold as a piece of Art - but of course the objectives where a lot worse than that - testing of destructive weapons.
